Ford recall overview:

  • Who: Ford Motor Co. is recalling 56,410 vehicles, including Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, Lincoln Corsair, Ford Edge, and Ford Escape models.
  • Why: The recall is due to rearview camera issues that may prevent the image from displaying correctly, increasing the risk of an accident.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States.

Ford is recalling more than 56,000 vehicles due to potential malfunctions with the rearview camera systems, which could increase the risk of accidents.

The recall was announced on March 14, 2025, and affects several models, including the 2020-2023 Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair, 2021-2022 Ford Edge, and 2025 Ford Escape.

The issue stems from a failure in the video output, which may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying or cause it to display incorrectly. According to the recall, this defect could significantly reduce a driver’s visibility when reversing, thus increasing the likelihood of a crash.

Three separate recall notices were issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

  • A first notice for certain 2020-23 Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and 2020-22 Lincoln Corsair vehicles previously repaired incorrectly.
  • second notice for certain 2021-22 Edge vehicles previously repaired incorrectly.
  • A third notice for certain 2025 Escape vehicles with incorrect reverse image display.

Ford has identified that the problem arises from software errors or incorrect repairs under previous recalls.

Various rearview camera defects pose crash risks, recall says

The recall notice highlights the critical nature of the rearview camera defects, which could lead to severe safety risks if not addressed.

For the affected Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and Lincoln Corsair models, the video output failure could completely prevent the camera image from appearing on the display screen, leaving drivers without a crucial visual aid when reversing.

In the case of the Ford Escape, the camera may display an inverted image, which could confuse drivers and lead to misjudgments while maneuvering the vehicle in reverse.

Ford is taking proactive steps to rectify the situation by notifying vehicle owners and providing a remedy. The company plans to mail notification letters to affected owners by late April 2025, advising them to visit their local dealerships for a free software update or camera replacement if necessary.

For more information about the recall, consumers can visit the online Ford customer service or call 1-866-436-7332.

Ford says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Another ongoing Ford recall involves Lincoln Navigator SUVs over a LED logo light short circuit.

I have a 2013 ford explorer, and my camera stopped working.

I have that same issue with my 2013 Ford Fusion. It blinks out soon after the car is put in reverse. Sometime it works and sometime it says that there is an issue with the back up camera. I have taken it to get looked at but they are saying they see nothing wrong. so not sure what the problem is.

I have a 2014 Ford escape titanium eco boost
My back camera isn’t working and when it does it’s upside down or side ways.

Not to mention it keeps blowing o2 sensors and O2 sensor heaters
