Ford has recalled more than 200,000 vehicles due to a software defect that may cause the rearview camera to malfunction, potentially leading to crashes.
The recall was announced to U.S. highway safety regulators, with Ford indicating that the defect could result in the camera displaying a blank image or the image remaining on the display after reversing, which could distract drivers.
The recall affects 200,061 vehicles, including Ford models Bronco Sport, EcoSport, Edge, Escape, Expedition, Explorer, F-150, F-250 SD, Fusion, Maverick, Mustang, Ranger, Transit and Transit Connect as well as Lincoln models like the Aviator, Continental, Corsair, MK2, Nautilus and Navigator. The full list is available in the recall notice.
“The camera can either display a blank image or that the image may remain on the display after the driver finishes backing up, causing a distraction,” the recall notice states.
Drivers can look out for warning signs, recall states
Ford has assured that dealerships will update the camera software at no cost to the owners. The company plans to mail notification letters to owners by July 28.
The recall aims to address the potential hazard posed by the camera defect, which could lead to increased risk of crashes and injuries. To rectify the issue, Ford will provide a free software update for the affected vehicles’ rearview cameras through its dealerships.

Ford says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Earlier, Ford recalled more than 27,000 model year 2025 Bronco vehicles over concerns that the child safety lock feature could malfunction and allow a rear door to open unintentionally.

I have a 2014 Ford Edge with the rear view camera going blank or its upside down sometimes, but the recall starts at 2019.
