Ford recall overview:
- Who: Ford is recalling approximately 500,000 vehicles, specifically the 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX and the 2015-2018 Ford Edge.
- Why: A defect in the brake system can lead to brake fluid leakage, increasing stopping distance and crash risk.
- Where: The recall is active in the United States.
A new Ford recall affects 499,129 vehicles due to a potential brake fluid leak that could increase the risk of crashes.
The recall involves the 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX and the 2015-2018 Ford Edge models.
The recall was issued following an announcement by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The problem stems from a flexible brake hose that may develop a leak, leading to increased brake pedal travel and stopping distance. If the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir becomes low, the red brake fluid warning indicator light will illuminate, according to Ford’s letter to car dealers.
“An increase in stopping distance increases the risk of a crash,” Ford said in the recall notice.
Ford recall: Remedy available by April
Ford plans to notify affected vehicle owners about the safety risk in early September, with a remedy expected to be available by April. The recall is part of Ford’s broader strategy to address safety and technical issues promptly.
“The increase in recalls reflects our intensive strategy to quickly find and fix hardware and software issues and go the extra mile to help protect customers,” Ford Chief Operating Officer Kumar Galhotra stated in a blog post .
He further noted that Ford has more than doubled its team of safety and technical experts in the past two years and has significantly increased testing on critical systems in current vehicles.

Ford says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Recent Ford recalls include a notice for more than 312,000 vehicles, including F-150, Ranger, Expedition, Bronco and Lincoln Navigator models, due to a defect in the electronic power brake assist.
