Ford is recalling more than 100,000 Ranger pickup trucks due to a potential defect in the side curtain air bags, which could tear upon deployment. This defect violates federal safety standards and poses a risk to vehicle occupants.
According to the notice, the Ford recall affects 100,900 Ford Ranger pickups from the 2024 to 2026 model years.
The issue arises when the side curtain air bags come into contact with the B-Pillar inner reinforcements, potentially causing tears during deployment, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
“Air bags that deploy improperly during a crash increase the risk of injury,” the recall notice says.
Ford has assigned the Ford recall number 25C41 to this issue, and interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed by September 8, 2025. Further communication regarding the final remedy is anticipated in December 2025.
Ford to install protective shields to address air bag issue
Ford has committed to installing protective shields on the affected Ford Ranger models to prevent the air bags from contacting the B-Pillar inner reinforcements.
“Dealers will install protective shields, free of charge,” the recall notice says .
This measure aims to ensure compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 226, which pertains to ejection mitigation.
