Ford is recalling more than 20,000 Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair vehicles due to a manufacturing defect that can cause battery failure.

The Lincoln Corsair and Ford Escape recall was published to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website on Dec. 20. It applies to 20,484 model year 2020-2024 Ford Escape, and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair vehicles.

According to the recall, a manufacturing defect in one or more of the high voltage battery cells may result in an internal short circuit and battery failure.

“Battery failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Battery failure can also increase the risk of a fire,” the recall says.

We’ve been very happy with our 2022 Escape Plugin Hybrid despite several recalls, but now we are told not to charge it lest it burst into flames while driving. We bought very little gas before, charging every night with solar. Ford won’t provide any information about when the fix will occur and just tells us to check with the dealer.
Ford should compensate owners who are deprived of the plugin function of their car. I think they are stalling on the fix because it will require replacement of the battery pack at great cost to the company. I would gladly join a class action suit against Ford and my local dealership.
