Ford recall overview:

  • Who: Ford Motor Co. recalled certain 2021-2022 models, including Ford Broncos, F-150s, Edges, Explorers and Lincoln Nautiluses and Aviators.
  • Why: The engine intake valve may break while the vehicle is in use, leading to engine failure and loss of power.
  • Where: The Ford recall includes more than 90,000 vehicles sold throughout the United States.

Ford Motor Co. recalled specific 2021-2022 vehicles equipped with the 2.7-liter or 3.0-liter Nano EcoBoost engine, including

  • Ford Bronco
  • Ford Edge
  • Ford Explorer
  • Ford F-150
  • Lincoln Aviator
  • Lincoln Nautilus

The Ford EcoBoost engine may contain an intake valve that has the propensity to break, according to the recall notice, which also states if the valve fails, the driver may experience catastrophic engine failure, resulting in an immediate loss of power.

The check engine light usually warns drivers of the Ford EcoBoost engine failure, according to the recall notice. Additionally, consumers may notice that the vehicle is running roughly.

Ford says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Ford to replace engines in thousands of vehicles, recall notice states

Per the recall notice, owners of vehicles with the Ford EcoBoost engine should take their vehicle to the dealership immediately. The dealer will conduct an engine cycle test and replace the engine if needed. All labor and replacement parts will be free.

Owners who have already paid to replace the engine or repair damages caused by intake valve failure may be eligible for reimbursement.

For more information, owners may contact customer service at 866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 800-424-9153). The primary contact for this recall is Dusty Gardner, who can be reached via email at [email protected]

This is not the only recall Ford Motor Co. issued this year. In July, Ford recalled the 2024 Ranger and Lincoln Nautilus models for automatic windows that exert excessive force, and the 2022-2023 Mustang models due to steering wheels that turn without warning.

I am having transmission and engine issues, just replaced coil pack made it run better but I can be driving and it’s like I put my car in neutral bc it will not do anything I was almost hit by a semi truck two weeks ago. Ford will not stand behind it’s recalls, they refuse to fix anything

Once again they ignore the 2020 Ford Ranger! This is INFURIATING. They know the Ranger is a hunk of junk. It has left people 10’s of thousands in debt and no vehicle to drive, a repossession and/or 10-17,000 in new engine costs on top of still owing ( only to have to replace the engine AGAIN!). We know, it happened to us and we are meticulous with vehicle maintenance; husband was a mechanic with 5 certifications. When I say infuriating, I mean absolutely livid! This crap is literally preventing us from being able to rent a freaking place to live. After living life, and raising 4 children, a greedy corporation selling crap is now dictating how and where we live.

I bought a 2016 F150 eco-boost and have had nothing but problems, engine failure, stalls, rough, riding shaking. On the expressway if you try to pass someone it will stall and lose power manufacturer report was make sure correct gapping is in spark plugs and requires engine to have tuneup every 60,000 miles no one at Akins Ford dealershiptold me anything about this.

Let me guess? No compression in Cylinder 1 and about 30% in Cylinder 2? It wouldn’t matter if you did proper maintenance every 40,000 abd had top of line spark plugs. Husband is a mechanic, with 5 certifications and meticulous with care. Ours crapped out and we are screwed. Dealership wanted $10,000 for new engine! Nope.

  4. Carlton McCray says:

I have had a tremendous amount of repairs on my 2015 F150 Ecoboost. I have replaced 6 throttle body. The most recent was under warranty and the dealership would not honor the warranty for replacement. I have problems with turbos leaking anti-freeze and oil.

  5. John R says:

Bought a 2016 ford focus se 1.0 eco boost engine. Almost immediately after purchasing my engine started having issues. Replaced multiple parts even though ford gave me 2 year warranty on my engine I had to replace everything. Within months engine was considered totaled. One day just lost power on the freeway out of know where. Ford refused to replace ended up having to buy a new engine myself and took it to Toyota to install had no faith in ford dealership. They sucked my bank dry and sold me a dud vehicle which I believe they knew. Never told me about recalls or any class action. Now it’s the intake valve giving out loosing power again shaky car almost crashed the other day. Need help bad. Bay Area native. Any advice?!?

  6. Woodstone says:

2012 f150 fx2 ecoboost overheating, only 129,000 miles and over 6000.00 in repairs to engine in past 6 months.
The power steering goes out at random times making it a DEATHTRAP to drive, Blend door motors continually go out, and a 49.00 part is placed in a 1000.00 repair location. Truck sitting, too scared to drive it.
