Ford recall overview:

  • Who: Ford Motor Company recalled certain 2017-2020 F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450 and 2017-2020 Lincoln Continental vehicles.
  • Why: The vehicles may have cloudy camera lenses, reducing rear visibility.
  • Where: The Ford recall is nationwide in the United States.

Ford Motor Company recalled certain 2017-2020 F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450 and 2017-2020 Lincoln Continental vehicles due to a camera lens flaw.

On Aug. 26, Ford announced on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website that it recalled 277,040 vehicles due to a cloudy camera lens issue.

Ford specifically recalled its 2017-2020 F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450 and Lincoln Continental vehicles equipped with the 360-degree camera system.

“Degradation of the camera’s anti-reflective lens coating can lead to a foggy or cloudy rear view camera image,” the Ford recall says. “Lack of a clear rear view camera image can reduce the driver’s visibility of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Ford recall says rearview camera taken out of production

The recalled rear view camera was introduced into production on Nov. 12, 2015, and taken out of production on March 10, 2020, the company says.

It did not state whether there had been any injuries related to the issue so far.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

As a remedy, dealers will replace the rear view camera, free of charge, according to the afore recall.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 12, 2022.

In June, Ford was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging it concealed a defect in certain Ford Fiestas and Ford Focus vehicles that can cause jerking, difficulty stopping and even engine failure.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Ford sued three American companies, one Chinese company and unknown individual affiliates of theirs for manufacturing, importing, marketing and selling thousands of counterfeit Ford-branded parts worth millions of dollars.
