Ford recall overview:

  • Who: Ford is recalling certain Super Duty pickup trucks.
  • Why: The recalled trucks may have faulty fuel pumps.
  • Where: The Ford recall is active in the United States.

Ford has recalled more than 295,000 trucks as they may contain faulty fuel pumps.

The recall was published to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website on Dec. 20. It applies to 295,449 model year 2020-2022 Super Duty F250, F350, F450, F550, F600, and 2021-2022 F-650, F750 vehicles.

According to the recall, biodiesel deposits can form on the pump drivetrain roller components, which can lead to failure of the high pressure fuel pump.

“High pressure fuel pump failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash,” the recall says.

Ford says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Drivers can look out for warning signs, recall states

Drivers of the recalled vehicles may experience extended crank while starting, a check engine light, noise and reduced engine power, the recall states.

To fix the issue, dealers will update the powertrain control module software, free of charge.  Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by Jan. 13, 2025.

This news comes on the heels of an October recall in which Ford recalled almost 25,000 of its F-250, F-350 and F-450 vehicles due to a rear view camera defect. If the rear view camera image does not display, it can decrease a driver’s visibility, increasing the risk of injury or crash, that recall said.

They should check into older models as well. We have a 2017 Ford F250 that we just had to replace the fuel pump on. Issue came out of nowhere, didn’t have enough power to pull up our driveway.
