- Where: The Ford recall is active in the United States.
Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 30,000 Ford Flex, Ford Fiesta, and Lincoln MKT vehicles as they may contain faulty rearview cameras that increase the risk of a crash.
The recall was published to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website on Dec. 20.
It applies to 30,715 Ford Motor Company model year 2019 Flex, Fiesta, and Lincoln MKT vehicles.
According to the recall, the rearview camera may intermittently display a blank or distorted image.
“A rearview camera that displays a blank or distorted image can reduce the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash,” the recall says.
Fix for faulty rearview camera still in development, Ford says
Ford has not yet developed a remedy for the issue, as the root cause of the issue is still under investigation, the recall said.
When the remedy is available, owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the fix performed at no cost, according to the recall.
The automaker did not state whether there had been any crashes related to the faulty rearview cameras so far. Ford is not currently facing legal action over the issue, however Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they can sometimes result in a lawsuit.
Meanwhile, last week, Ford also recalled more than 295,000 Super Duty pickup trucks due to concerns they may contain faulty fuel pumps.

My 2017 Ford Flex Limited Is having the same issues with the rear backup camera, but no recall on the 2017’s!!!!
Add me
I think the catastrophic engine failures on the Ford Rangers are more important than these frivolous camera recalls/buyback lawsuits. They are ridiculous! Teach people real driving skills before relying on cameras: rearview mirror, side mirrors, and turning your head. Gawd forbid people have to do something for themselves or put some effort into it.
