A new nationwide class action lawsuit claims Ford Motor Co. misled consumers about the safety features of its 2024 F-150 Lightning trucks.

Plaintiff Ibrahim Lunawadawala filed the class action complaint against Ford on Nov. 25 in California federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.

According to the class action lawsuit, Ford misrepresented the features of its 2024 F-150 Lightning trucks, specifically claiming that they were equipped with a Forward Sensing System (FSS), a safety feature that alerts drivers to obstacles in front of the vehicle when moving at low speeds.

Lunawadawala claims the window stickers on the trucks advertised the FSS as a standard component, leading consumers to believe they were purchasing a vehicle with this important safety feature.

The lawsuit alleges that the trucks were delivered without the FSS, prompting Ford to offer a refund of just $100 to affected consumers.

Ford’s $100 refund for missing feature insubstantial, plaintiff claims

Lunawadawala argues that $100 is significantly less than the cost of installing the FSS, which uses ultrasonic waves to detect nearby obstacles and alert drivers with increasing beeps as the vehicle approaches an object.

He claims that the misrepresentation of the FSS as a standard feature not only deceived consumers but also put their safety at risk because without FSS, drivers are not alerted to nearby hazards, increasing the likelihood of front-end collisions.

Lunawadawala alleges that Ford’s $100 refund is inadequate and fails to cover the cost of installing the FSS. He claims Ford has been unwilling to provide sufficient compensation or remedy for the missing feature, which he says was a key factor in his decision to purchase the Ford F-150 truck.

The class action lawsuit seeks to represent all individuals in the United States who purchased or leased a 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning truck that was advertised as having the FSS.

Lunawadawala is suing for breach of express warranty, fraudulent misrepresentation and unjust enrichment. He is seeking certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.

In another recent Ford class action lawsuit, consumers accused the company of not adequately disclosing a seatbelt defect in Ford Explorers, thus posing a serious safety risk to passengers.
