Verizon Communications Inc. failed to provide New Jersey customers the promotional incentives it promised when they purchased FiOS digital cable television plans, according to a class action lawsuit recently filed in the state.
Plaintiff Aleti Lelaj of Bloomington, N.J., alleges that she received an offer from Verizon in June 2015 that offered a prepaid debit card and tablet to customers who ordered and subscribed to Verizon FiOS service.
The promised benefits included a $400 Verizon prepaid Visa card and Ellipsis 8 tablet or $200 off any tablet from Verizon Wireless. According to the Verizon class action lawsuit, Lelaj responded to the offer and became a FiOS customer.
Lelaj says she applied for the offered reward in August 2015, and continued to contact Verizon in an attempt to collect the promised incentives. She claims that she was told several different stories by Verizon representatives.
According to the Verizon class action lawsuit, one representative told her that she “did not deserve” the promotional gifts; another told her that it would “take a while” for her to receive the gifts; and yet another told her that the promotional gifts had been issued on Oct. 5, 2015, but that it would take 30 days for her to receive the gifts.
“At no time has plaintiff received any of the promotional gifts that were promised by Verizon in exchange for her subscription to FiOS services,” the FiOS class action lawsuit asserts.
Lelaj claims she is not alone, and that other New Jersey consumers received the same offer and were denied their promotional gifts after subscribing to FiOS. She says that she and the other Class Members relied on Verizon’s representation about the promotional gifts when making the decision to subscribe to FiOS.
“Verizon failed to provide plaintiff and class members with the promised promotional gifts, despite plaintiff and class members making the necessary purchase to trigger entitlement to the promotional gifts,” the FiOS class action lawsuit states. “As a result of Verizon’s failure to provide the promotional gifts, plaintiff and class members have suffered an ascertainable loss.”
According to the FiOS class action lawsuit, Verizon falsely advertised that consumers would receive promotional gifts in exchange for their purchase of FiOS services.
The FiOS promo incentive class action lawsuit asserts that Verizon’s conduct constitutes an unconscionable business practice under New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act. Lelaj seeks compensatory, punitive and treble damages, interest, attorneys’ fees, costs of bringing the suit, and other remedies deemed proper by the court.
Lelaj has filed the Verizon class action lawsuit on behalf of herself and other past and present Verizon customers who were offered certain incentives to purchase FiOS services but were denied those services and/or promotional gifts by Verizon.
Lelaj is represented by Kevin M. Costello of Costello & Mains LLC.
The Verizon Promotional Incentives Class Action Lawsuit is Lelaj v. Verizon Communications Inc., Case No. L-2553-16, in the Superior Court of New Jersey in Camden County.

I too would like to added to this class action suit.
I hope that I qualify because I live in NY not NJ.
I left Verizon in April 2023 and they continue to mail me letters and send emails for me to come back.
They kept raising the prices, and they cancelled my ACP in exchange for a gift card in which I never authorized or asked for.
As of to date, they owe me a credit and whenever I call to inquire about the money owed to me they keep giving me different excuses on why I haven’t received it.
Please add me.
Can I join this class action lawsuit? Verizon is saying I owe them 350 for a gift card. They emailed me the card and I accidentally deleted it. I tried for months to get it back and cs gave me various numbers and online sites and I finally just gave up. That was after months of trying, now they want me to pay them 350!! I don’t have that kind of money. I used the card one time to pay
My bill and I told them I would be happy to pay the 70 something dollars I used, but not 350. I hope you can help me, please.
Same thing happened to my family over the triple play package. And now they harass us to come back. I’ve asked to be removed from their emails, calls and mail too many times and yet they still freely harass us. I’m here because I’m so sick of them I was looking to see if there was a class action against them for this case.
The same thing just happened to me and I am livid. I was even thinking a class action lawsuit if others have been fraudulently induced to switching service providers–and now I see there’s one already filed. You would think Verizon would honor their promises. I am going to exhaust every legal remedy possible to ensure that I get what I was promised.
Where can I sign up for the lawsuit?
