Takata airbag recall driving steering wheelAfter the defective Takata airbag system was linked with potentially fatal hazards, dozens of car manufacturers have recalled vehicles built using this airbag system.

The recall affects a long list of vehicles that were shipped with a defective Takata airbag system. You can view a list of affected vehicles on our Defective Airbag Recall investigation page.

The Cadillac Escalade Recall

The luxury car manufacturer Cadillac has issued a recall over potentially deadly defects linked with the defective Takata airbag system installed in some of its Escalade models. The Cadillac Escalade recall comes after the airbag manufacturer Takata alerted the public that it had discovered a substantial risk of injury or even death associated with its airbag system, caused by exploding shrapnel.

The Cadillac Escalade recall includes a few of its vehicles from the last several years, including:

  • 2007–2014 Escalade
  • 2007–2014 Escalade ESV
  • 2007–2013 Escalade EXT

Vehicles from a number of manufacturers—not just Cadillac—have been installed with airbag systems made by Takata. Unfortunately, this means that hundreds of thousands of vehicles from a variety of manufacturers have been impacted by the Takata airbag recall.

Other vehicles affected by these Takata airbag defects include some manufactured by Chevrolet, GMC, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes, and dozens more.

Takata Airbag System Defects

The front airbags in vehicles affected by the recalls were found to have a fairly simple but potentially fatal flaw. The specific airbag involved in the recalls are Takata-made ammonium nitrate airbags. According to reports, these airbags are capable of exploding forcibly rather than just expanding, causing serious harm instead of offering protection.

The airbag’s inflation component includes a metal cartridge loaded with propellant. The defective airbags are reportedly able to inflate more rapidly than they should, creating a force that can cause the metal cartridge inside to explode. This explosion can result in metal shrapnel blasting into the car and towards driver and passengers alike, which can have deadly consequences.

Indeed, according to reports, this defect has been linked with over 1,880 injuries and 11 deaths in the last few years.

A growing number of people who own vehicles involved in the recall are filing lawsuits against both their car’s manufacturers and Takata.

Automakers may have been aware of the dangerous defects linked with these Takata airbags for a significant period of time. However, many customers claim that their vehicle’s manufacturer failed to warn them about the serious risks associated with the airbag system.

Seeking Compensation for a Defective Takata Airbag

If your vehicle was affected by a Takata airbag recall, you may be eligible for compensation and able to participate in the investigation.

Filing a lawsuit over the defective Takata airbag recall cannot take away any pain and suffering caused by Takata defects, or any property damage done to your car, but it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and repair work.
