Diversified Ambulance Billing HMO Settlement
By Mike Holter

Diversified Ambulance BillingDiversified Ambulance Billing, LLC has reached a class action lawsuit settlement with Florida HMO subscribers who say the company attempted to collect money for charges they didn’t owe. If you were a subscriber of a Florida HMO during the time period of October 8, 2005 through July 8, 2010 and Diversified Ambulance Billing attempted to collect money from you that you didn’t owe, you may be able to receive a refund plus $10 in the class action settlement.

Plaintiffs sued Diversified Ambulance Billing (DAB), a nationwide billing company for ambulance services, alleging that DAB routinely billed Florida HMO subscribers on behalf of its ambulance service provider clients for the balance of its client’s bills, other than for co-payments and deductibles. Florida law prohibits the practice of balance billing of Florida HMO subscribers.

As part of the DAB class action settlement, DAB has agreed to reimburse class members for the amount of any payment actually paid to DAB with respect to a Relevant Charge above his or her co-payment or deductible, if any, plus an additional $10. To be considered a class member of the DAB class action lawsuit settlement, you must have been a Florida resident who subscribed to a Florida HMO and had DAB either collect or attempt to collect money you did not owe during the time period of October 8, 2005 through July 8, 2010.

To make a claim for your share of the DAB settlement, you must mail a claim form postmarked no later than March 4, 2011. If you wish to exclude yourself from the settlement or object to it, you must do so by January 31, 2011.

I just stumbled on this while doing a search on DAB/Fidelis and fraud, wondering if DAB was getting hammered along with Saltville over the Medicare fraud investigation. I remember the many bounced paychecks and the numerous stories as to why but it always seemed to happen after they came back from one of their frequent vacations. I gotta say, I’ve seen too much not to agree with the “snakes” reference but Maureen seemed to be an honest person. Might be why she is no longer there. I heard they recently lost clients again and downsized to the admin section. I hope the next downsizing doesn’t have them relocating to that coffee kiosk in the parking lot. Brilliant reorganization that young lad is accomplishing.
