deck rescue itCustomer complaints about the outdoor resurfacer and sealant called Olympic Rescue It! are mounting as a class action investigation is underway over collective criticisms that the deck stain is utterly ineffective and susceptible to cracking, peeling, and chipping within months after it is applied.

What is Olympic Rescue It! Resurfacer?

Olympic is a paint and stain company with corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. Their line of Rescue It! Resurfacer promises “a durable coating for wood and concrete splits and cracks up to ¼” deep.

Rescue It also assures its consumers: “A fine texture helps to hide surface imperfections.” Olympic touts the sealant as ideal for lightly to moderately worn wood and concrete. It is also supposed to waterproof and provide a non-slip textured outdoor surface.

Consumers Complain Rescue It! is Defective

Consumer complaints about Rescue It allege that the deck product fails long before it should do so, flaking and peeling off decks soon after application.  As alleged, this is considered a violation of many states’ Deceptive Trade Practices Act and a breach of express warranties.  It is believed that the deceptively marketed Olympic Rescue It stain may have affected thousands of customers across the nation.

Deck stains typically effectively seal wood for three to five years before reapplication is necessary. Yet, many consumers have taken to online forums to voice their disappointment that the Olympic stain broke down a short time after it was applied, peeling, cracking, and bubbling.

Customers also state that the product required an extensive preparation time before they were even able to begin the application process, which again was time consuming.

Olympic has claimed there is no set time period for a sealant to last, and this would depend on how worn the material is to start. However, many customers also claim the product broke down in an unreasonably short period of time.

While Olympic has offered to refund unhappy customers who have properly applied the product, and/or replace with another Rescue It resealent, some customers assert that this is not sufficient.

The time wasted in preparing and applying a faulty product, only to do the work all over again, has forced them to seek a greater return than simply a refund and replacement.

Olympic Rescue It! Resurfacer Class Action Investigation

Sold as a “high performance” coating, Olympic Rescue It instead is of poor quality, according to many disappointed customers. Thus, many consumers assert their money was wasted, as well as their time, since recoating their deck with a different product was necessary.

The Olympic Rescue It! class action lawsuit investigation is calling for consumers who have purchased and used Olympic Rescue It in the last couple of years, and who have seen the product fail within a few months after its application, to consider filing legal action.

If you have purchased Olympic Rescue It products, and found that the deck resurfacer did not do what it was represented to do–flaking and peeling off your deck before it should have done so–you may be eligible to file a lawsuit or join a class action lawsuit against Olympic.

  1. Audrey Rasque says:

I paid for someone to put this Olympic Rescue it on my deck. The deck is in horrible shape. It is peeling everywhere and water is getting trapped causing damage to wood. Expensive to put down and I haven’t found an easy way to remove it.

  2. Cindy Ewers says:

We bought several of the 2.67 gallon buckets of Olympic Rescue It! resurfacing and sealant in one. The purchase date on the receipt is June 15, 2015. Also on the receipt is the recommended Olympic Deck Cleaner. This product has been pealing off some areas deck for years. Had no idea there was a settlement. Any idea how to participate in the settlement?

  3. Gary S says:

Did both levels of deck appx 16×36 , and what a waste of time, money & work. I redid top level, sanded & painted, I am now redoing lower level and actually replacing lots of lumber on lower deck. Rescue It -killed it, very bad product.

  7. Larry Garner says:

Same here. I did this last year, using almost $600 (600 sq ft deck) of the product with up to three coasts to get it to even out. The local rep got fired for falsifying his work time and just found out about a new rep. I talked with her recently and she said I have to call the customer service line before she could look at it. She did say they changed the formula. I still have a few gallons left and was planning to try to redo some of the bad parts – I found this site and wanted to express my ilk of the product.

  8. Chris Sheaves says:

Bought and stained my cedar deck July 2015. April 19 2016 the whole deck is blistering and peeling. I am using my shop vac to strip it…Not impressed.

    1. Lisa says:

Are you involved in a lawsuit? We had the same problem it is a horrible product. Have spend a lot of time and money trying to remove it. The deck is pretty much ruined. Is there any recourse?
