Chrysler airbag recall overview:
- Who: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 250,651 Pacifica and Voyager vehicles.
- Why: The recall is due to side curtain airbags that may not retain sufficient pressure, increasing the risk of ejection and injury.
- Where: The recall is effective in the United States.
Chrysler is issuing an airbag recall for more than 250,000 Pacifica and Voyager minivans from model years 2022 to 2025 due to a potential airbag defect.
The side curtain airbags in these vehicles may not maintain adequate pressure because of improperly sealed seams, posing a heightened risk of injury during crashes.
The recall, announced May 9, involves the side curtain airbags, which may not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, “Ejection Mitigation,” due to insufficient pressure retention.
Chrysler said it would notify owners with interim letters by June 30, 2025, and will send a second notice once a final remedy is available.
“An air bag with insufficient pressure retention increases the risk of ejection and injury during a crash,” the recall says.
Chrysler offering free inspections and replacements of airbags, recall notice says
Chrysler has assured vehicle owners that dealers will inspect and replace the faulty side curtain airbags at no cost. The company has emphasized that the issue arises from improperly sealed seams, which could compromise the airbags’ effectiveness during deployment.
“Chrysler dealers will inspect and replace the side curtain airbags as necessary, at no cost to the vehicle owners,” the recall notice says.
The company is also petitioning the NHTSA for a determination that the defect is inconsequential to motor vehicle safety. If the petition is denied, Chrysler will be required to fulfill its notification and remedy obligations.
Vehicle owners are encouraged to follow the instructions in their Chrysler Pacifica recall notices and contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403, noting recall numbers 06C, 54C, 55C, for further assistance.
Chrysler said it is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to this defect. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Chrysler airbag recall, but Top Class Actions monitors such recalls closely, as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

6 thoughts onChrysler recalls over 250,000 vehicles due to dangerous airbag issues
I did not receive the so called airbag notice from Chrysler. I received it from NHTSA. I just got my van. It’s specially modified for wheelchair driving. My system costs over $100k+ the cost of the vehicle. I purchased in 2022 and it took 3 years to build it. I took delivery in October 2025. I got this vehicle because the last one crashed. The driving controls malfunctioned at boot up and the vehicle took off in reverse at a high speed. I had no control over it because the boot process did not complete. I impacted a tree at such a high speed that the side doors were almost pushed off the vehicle. No airbags deployed but yet my wheelchair was pulled out of the floor lock and flipped backwards with me strapped in it thank God I did not break my neck. My daughter and I were locked into the vehicle and could not get out even if we tried once the vehicle came to a stop the doors unlocked. I could not move, but my daughter was able to get out and call an ambulance for me to be taken to the hospital no airbags deployed and that was a Chrysler Pacifica 2020 touring L plus. Top-of-the-line the van I currently have the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica touring L was the replacement vehicle after having to fight the insurance company for replacement. Now only to find out that the airbag system does not work from the moment that I picked up the vehicle I constantly got errors on the computer that said that the stop start system needed service. Also that the airbag system needed service and multiple other things but yet when we put it up to the computer to be tested, it said that all of those were fine. I don’t know what the dealership is pulling but for them to tell me that it’s fine is a lie now I have this recall and I took the vehicle to a dealer and they said that the airbag system is just fine. How do I know that it’s fine they took 10 minutes to do an inspection which I did not see so I have no idea whether the airbags work or not they did not give me the option of having the airbags replaced. I am out of warranty, of course because my car had to sit in the dealer for three years to be built with my new controls so I was outside of my manufacturers warranty. I never even got a chance to test the vehicle to see if the vehicle was even in good condition or worked before I got to drive it. This is one of the bad things that happens to people with disabilities because we have to wait so long for our equipment to be built we don’t have the option of an extended warranty or to even start the warranty later. It starts, of course the day that you sign your name on the bottom line, even if the car sits in the garage or at the dealership for three years. So now I’m in a position where I have unsafe vehicle the seatbelts don’t even work on the in the rear they haven’t since day one and now the airbag system doesn’t work either. The notice said that there was no known fix for the problem at this time and I would be notified when one was available. How long am I supposed to wait before I get an accident and I am killed because of safety issues, not being taken care of as it is the previous controls were made by a company that is no longer allowed to sell in the United States as far as I know Because of the safety issues that they caused with multiple drivers. Do I have a case to sue Chrysler? How can I resolve this in a quicker manner this airbag system is very important to those with disabilities let alone a person that is non-disabled. As it is, if I have to get another new vehicle, it will take another three years to get it built, and that means I have no transportation for that time insuring it is another story.
I am certainly not one of those people that sits back and just collects a check. I worked very hard to stay in the working world and fully independent. These vehicles are not cheap even if they weren’t modified. The modifications are very expensive and it takes a lot of advocacy and a lot of red tape to get them. What are my next steps? Should I be driving it? I don’t want to take other people with disabilities as passengers for fear that the airbag system would not work or the tiedown system. It gives me a ton of anxiety to know that I am on the road and an unsafe vehicle. If anyone has any ideas, let’s gather together and figure this out and bring class action suit if necessary. Certainly some advocacy to NHTSA and Congress is needed. Maybe I’m the person that needs to get it started. I don’t know, but I’m certainly going to look into it.
Never received any notice what so ever of recall. Thank you Top Class posting this. Otherwise I would not have known and the kids would be driving around with a potential death van.
I just got my van in May and got notified last week of the recall its thre only vehicle I have to drive so I can only pray I don’t get in wreck
The Arthur’s don’t go out in a wreck in the 2005 jeep liberty limited either it the 2005 grand Cherokee limited. Gas tank didn’t shut off and gas tank was got and no airbags let off at all
Ya might wanna recall the 2019 jeep grand Cherokee that does not even deploy the air bag in a crash!! Someone is gonna get killed!!!!
Have a Jeep Compass 2018 getting error message saying air bag need servicing took it to a dealer and he is saying it is 1700.00 dollars to fixed. Noone will be able to ride in passenger seat because if accident could be killed. This needs to be serviced as soon as possible. Just dont want any hurt.
