BMW has issued a recall for nearly 60,000 vehicles due to a potential fire hazard linked to the air conditioning system’s wiring harness. The recall includes the BMW M5, 5 Series, 7 Series, i5, i7, and M5 luxury vehicles.
The recall, announced on Feb. 25, affects models such as the 2025 M5 Sportswagon, 2025-2026 M5, 2024-2025 750e xDrive, 2025-2026 550e xDrive, 2023-2025 I7, 2023-2025 7 Series, 2024-2026 i5, and 5 Series vehicles.
The wiring harness can become damaged during replacement of the vehicles’ cabin air filter, which can lead to a short circuit and increase the risk of fire, according to the NHTSA.
BMW recall says only 1% of vehicles affected, but owners should take precautions
BMW has clarified that the risk is low, with less than 1% of the vehicles potentially affected. Despite this, owners are advised to take precautions and have their vehicles inspected.
BMW is offering free inspections and repairs for the affected vehicles. Dealers will inspect and replace the wiring harness if necessary and add a retaining strap or bracket to prevent future damage. This service will be provided at no cost to the vehicle owners.
