xareltoPharmaceutical giants Johnson & Johnson and Bayer HealthCare are facing a growing litigation movement over their blood thinning drug Xarelto.

One of the most recent claims has been filed by a Wisconsin woman, alleging major internal bleeding injuries were caused by the blood thinning drug Xarelto.

Plaintiff Yelena A. was prescribed Xarelto on Oct. 08, 2013, to prevent stroke and other blood clot attack.

Most commonly, the blood thinning drug Xarelto and other anticoagulants are prescribed to patients suffering from atrial fibrillation or who may be at high risk for blood clot attacks.

Even though the blood thinning drug Xarelto was meant to prevent blood clot problems in Yelena, she was only using the medication for a short period before suffering complications.

On Oct. 24, 2013, Yelena reported experienced anemia and rectal bleeding as a result of the blood thinning drug Xarelto.

Yelena received emergency treatment to stop these bleeding injuries, and in the future, must be vigilant against any other complications.

Overview of Xarelto Bleeding Complications

Xarelto was approved by the FDA in 2011, and was released as a joint effort between Bayer HealthCare and Johnson & Johnson.

The blood thinning drug Xarelto was approved a year after its predecessor, Pradaxa, had entered the market and was also facing allegations of uncontrollable internal bleeding complications.

Xarelto soon became a blockbuster success for the pharmaceutical companies, after being prescribed to millions of patients.

However a number of patients have allegedly suffered uncontrollable internal bleeding complications as a direct result of the blood thinning drug Xarelto.

Like other anticoagulants, Xarelto works by inhibiting the body’s clotting mechanism and improves the overall circulation process.

However, the drug also inhibits the body’s ability to recover from internal bleeding problems.

At this point in time, only warfarin has a widely available reversal agent to counteract internal bleeding complications.

Even though this is vital safety information, Bayer HealthCare and Johnson & Johnson allegedly failed to disclose this information to the medical community and patient population.

According to her Xarelto lawsuit, Yelena had followed all prescription instructions and physician advice when taking the blood thinning drug Xarelto.

Even though she only used the drug for its intended purpose, she still suffered dangerous internal bleeding injuries. Yelena states that she never would have taken the blood thinning drug Xarelto if she had known the risks.

This Xarelto Lawsuit is Case No. 2:16-cv-15165 in the U.S. District Court of Eastern Louisiana.
