BISSELL recalls steam cleaners in U.S. and Canada with 161 burn injury reports

BISSELL has recalled more than 1.7 million steam cleaners due to a risk of serious burn hazards. The BISSELL recall affects the Steam Shot OmniReach and Omni Steam Cleaners, with attachments that can unexpectedly detach and release hot water or steam onto users.

The recall, announced on April 9, includes models 4155, 4155L, 4155W, 4155G, 4155D, 4155J, 4155Y, 4155P, 4171, 4171L, 4171W and 4171F. These steam cleaners, available in various colors, were sold at major retailers like Target and Walmart, as well as online platforms such as Amazon.com, from October 2024 through March 2026.

The company reported that 95,788 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and around 1.7 million were sold in the United States.

The products, manufactured in China, were priced between $9 and $55. According to the recall, the attachments can detach unexpectedly, posing a serious risk of burns.

“The recalled steam cleaners’ attachments can unexpectedly detach from the steam cleaners and expel hot water or steam onto users during use, posing a serious burn hazard,” the BISSELL recall says.

BISSELL recall logs 206 reports of incidents involving steam cleaners

In the United States, BISSELL has received 206 reported incidents of hot water or steam unexpectedly escaping from the attachments, including 161 reports of burn injuries. According to the Canadian recall notice, there has been one report of an incident resulting in a burn injury. 

The recall notice advises consumers to stop using the affected attachments immediately and contact BISSELL for free replacement attachments. 

To address the issue, BISSELL is offering free replacement attachments to affected consumers. Customers are encouraged to visit www.steamshot2026.com to register for the BISSELL recall and follow instructions on how to dispose of the original attachments. Proof of disposal is required to receive the new attachments.

BISSELL says it has received 206 incident reports related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

However, BISSELL is currently facing a class action lawsuit in California alleging its BISSELL Homecare starts the product warranty period on the date of purchase rather than the date of delivery.
