According to reviews from multiple consumers, Plantronics Bluetooth headphones may be subject to early battery failure. A Plantronics class action investigation is underway in an effort to secure compensation for frustrated purchasers who say that the product tends to fail just outside of the warranty period.
In combing through reviews on Plantronics Bluetooth headphones from one of the largest online retailers, Amazon, there are many references to poor battery performance. One consumer said that their performance was outstanding for the first six months of use. After this time had lapsed, she says the Plantronics Bluetooth headphones named Backbeat Fit wouldn’t even register a light when plugged in indicating a need to charge.
Another purchaser—trusting in her previous experience with the quality of the brand—failed to use the Backbeat Fit Plantronics Bluetooth headphones for close to a year. When the consumer eventually pulled them out of the original packaging and attached them to a power source for charging, the red light—indicating a need for power—allegedly remained unchanged for over 24 hours.
A third reviewer said that he was disappointed that—straight from the packaging—the Plantronics Bluetooth headphones had a red light that failed to turn green after a similar charging time frame of at least a day. The consumer says he took the wireless Backbeat Fit product back to the retailer to complain and exchange for a like item. According to his report, even the second pair of Plantronics Bluetooth headphones failed to charge. In his mind, this revealed a generalized product quality issue.
A fourth person said in their write-up that they had received the Plantronics Bluetooth headphones as a gift and reflexively put them into their gym bag where they remained unused for a few months. When she attempted to plug them in and charge them to no avail—straight from the package—she says the company responded poorly. She says Plantronics told her that the product was outside the warranty period and that they could not replace them even if they were defective—too much time had passed.
Plantronics History
Plantronics Inc. has been in business since 1961 and is headquartered out of Santa Cruz, Calif. The audio company specializes in audio communications products for industry and individual use that are largely mobile for the purposes of listening to music and playing games. The company was started after United Airlines put out a design bid for lightweight microphone headsets for pilots. Two pilots created a design which was accepted and became Plantronics first product.
Despite the alleged battery failure of so many Plantronics Bluetooth headphones, the company overall enjoys a good commercial reputation. For this reason, it is distressing to many that have had good experiences with their products to run up against these quality-control problems.
What appears to more upsetting are consumer allegations that Plantronics is allegedly not standing behind their product to the best of their ability and offering a recall as yet.
