baby powder cancer attorney ovarian cancerAfter numerous women were diagnosed with ovarian cancer and found out their condition could be connected to baby powder use, they chose to hire a baby powder cancer attorney to fight Johnson & Johnson over its product that they believe caused them great harm.

In the last year, several of these cases have gone to trial, with the baby powder cancer attorney playing an integral part in helping the women and their families recover damages caused by the cancer.

More importantly, to send a message to the company that consumer safety, rather than profits, needs to be its number one priority.

Allegations in the Baby Powder Cancer Lawsuits

The women and their families who have hired a baby powder cancer attorney allege that their ovarian cancer was directly caused by their use of Johnson & Johnson’s talc-based powder products in their genital area. The women used either Johnson’s Baby Powder or Shower to Shower, both made by Johnson & Johnson.

Talc is a naturally-occurring mineral that is composed of magnesium, oxygen and silicon. It is ground into a powder to be used in applications where it absorbs moisture and reduces friction.

This made its use popular in baby powder products, and it is also commonly used in many cosmetic applications as well. Baby powders made with cornstarch or other materials as a base have not been linked to ovarian cancer.

The allegations in baby powder cancer lawsuits state that research has suggested that the use of talc in the genital area is associated with ovarian cancer.

As far back as 1971, researchers studied 13 ovarian tumors and found that talc particles were embedded in 10 of them.

In the 1980s, a study showed a link between talc powder used in the genital area and ovarian cancer risk. At least 20 more studies have supported the idea that use of baby powder in the genital area places women at greater risk of developing ovarian cancer.

The allegations go on to state that Johnson & Johnson knew about the increased risk. Plaintiffs say the company was warned by its talc supplier and organizations about the link between its product and ovarian cancer, yet refused to take any action to warn consumers.

Outcome of Recent Baby Powder Cancer Lawsuits

In 2016, the outcomes of three baby powder cancer lawsuits were determined in jury trials. The juries found that Johnson & Johnson did not adequately warn the public about baby powder danger, causing women to unknowingly increase their risk of developing ovarian cancer.

In the three trials, the jury awarded $70.1 million, $72 million and $55 million on behalf of the women who suffered from ovarian cancer after having used the baby powder products.

Hiring a Baby Powder Cancer Attorney

More than 2,000 lawsuits are currently pending in federal and state courts against Johnson & Johnson. These actions share similar allegations of ovarian cancer being caused by baby powder use along with the company’s negligence in informing the public of the risk of cancer.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and has a history of using talc-based baby powder products, you may be eligible to file a baby powder lawsuit to recover damages linked to your medical condition.
