Atrium-C-Qur-LawsuitA Texas woman recently filed an Atrium C-Qur lawsuit alleging that the medical device from Atrium Medical Corporation caused serious injuries.

The plaintiff, Linda S., filed her May 25 complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire. Linda underwent umbilical hernia repair to treat the paraumbilical hernia she was diagnosed with on June 4, 2014, according to her Atrium C-Qur lawsuit. Atrium C-Qur mesh was used in this surgery. She remained in the hospital for three days, and was discharged on June 7, 2014.

However, on Oct. 27, 2016, Linda once again began experiencing severe abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with recurrent ventral incisional hernia. During the surgery, it was discovered that there was an excessive number of adhesions, including adhesions on her small intestine—located directly across the site of her previous hernia repair.

The mesh had become fused with the small intestine, and surgeons had to try extricate the two. According to the Atrium C-Qur lawsuit, surgeons “deemed it impossible to remove the mesh from the intestine,” and eventually had to use “sharp dissection” to remove the mesh fully.

After surgery was over and she was discharged from the hospital days later, Linda continues to suffer from serious abdominal pain due to these complications. Linda’s Atrium C-Qur lawsuit also notes that she will need to undergo more surgeries in the future in order to correct the damage done by the mesh device.

The Atrium C-Qur lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including negligence, design defect, failure to warn, breach of express and implied warranties, and others.

Hernia Repair Mesh Basics

One of the main approaches to repairing a hernia the problem is using hernia repair mesh. Essentially, hernia repair mesh is a kind of woven material used to reinforce a weak area or patch a hole. Even though hernia repair mesh is meant to fix damage, patients can actually suffer from serious complications due do the hernia repair mesh itself.

For some patients, hernia mesh complications may appear immediately after the surgery itself, but for others, such symptoms may not appear for weeks, months, or even years afterward.

Serious hernia repair mesh problems are surprisingly common. Indeed, between one and eight percent of patients implanted with hernia repair mesh end up developing some kind of infection related to their mesh.

Filing an Atrium C-Qur Lawsuit

If you or someone you love has suffered from hernia repair mesh complications after undergoing surgery with an Atrium C-Qur mesh device, anywhere from weeks to years prior, you may be able to file an Atrium C-Qur lawsuit for defective mesh.

Filing an Atrium C-Qur lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by hernia repair mesh symptoms, but it can help to alleviate the financial costs of medical expenses and even lost wages.
