asbestos mesothelioma construction worker yellow hard hatA growing number of people, especially construction workers, are filing lawsuits over asbestos exposure on the job that has led to serious and even life-threatening problems, including cancers like mesothelioma.

One such plaintiff, Robert C. of Connecticut, was employed at Electric Boat from 1962–1995, or just over three decades. Robert filed a lawsuit over asbestos exposure on the job against CBS Corp., alleging that he suffered from asbestos exposure on the job that the defendants could have been prevented. According to Robert’s suit, the defendants—CBS Corp., Crane Company, Foster Wheeler LLC, and General Electric Company—were each involved in manufacturing and distributing asbestos-containing products that led to this asbestos exposure on the job.

The lawsuit alleges that during the course of his employment, Robert inhaled dangerous asbestos fibers released by products from the defendants, which led directly to his diagnosis with asbestos mesothelioma. According to the lawsuit, the defendants either knew or should have known about the serious risks of their asbestos containing products, and should have warned Robert and others about the dangers of asbestos exposure on the job, including mesothelioma cancer.

Robert filed his asbestos exposure lawsuit on Aug. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. He filed the lawsuit on several counts.

Asbestos Mesothelioma Cancer Basics

Mesothelioma is a dangerous form of cancer that affects thousands of Americans each year. It attacks the lining of the lungs, a thin layer of tissue known as the mesothelium. Mesothelioma cancer generally take a long period of time to develop—there is usually a delay of several decades between asbestos exposure and mesothelioma cancer diagnosis.

The vast majority of mesothelioma cases can be linked with exposure to asbestos. Not of all these cases involve direct exposure to the substance. Household members of workers exposed on the job may be exposed to asbestos fibers secondhand over long periods of time.

What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral used for manufacturing purposes such as electrical or building insulation, as well as countless other uses. Asbestos is a known carcinogen, a substance capable of causing cancer.

Filing a Lawsuit After Asbestos Exposure on the Job

If you believe you may be suffering from mesothelioma cancer, you should tell your doctor and make note of your asbestos exposure, which may date to several decades in the past.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with or died from an asbestos-related disease like mesothelioma cancer after exposure to asbestos or asbestos products, such as asbestos exposure on the job, you may be able to file a mesothelioma lawsuit or seek an asbestos fine. Filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of cancer like mesothelioma, but it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical bills and lost wages.
