Danger Asbestos yellow warning tape close upCBS Corporation and other manufacturing companies are facing a new asbestos disease lawsuit alleging the plaintiffs developed shipyard mesothelioma.

The couple bringing the lawsuit claims the companies did not do enough to prevent asbestos exposure. The couple alleges the husband was exposed to asbestos on a daily basis due to working with the defendants’ products, which ultimately resulted in the development of shipyard mesothelioma.

Plaintiff couple Terry B. and Glenda B. are jointly filing this asbestos disease lawsuit, alleging the companies failed to warn Terry against potential shipyard mesothelioma while knowing their product contained asbestos. Terry alleges that as a result of regularly working with asbestos products, he developed shipyard mesothelioma and is currently contending with the condition.

According to the asbestos disease lawsuit, Terry served in the United States Navy between 1968 to 1989 as a machinists mate and master chief aboard the USS Wainwright and several other major ships. After his military service, Terry worked as a Quality Assurance Inspector at Atlantic Drydock Corporation from 1989 to 1996. He then worked in the same position at Braswell Services Group between 1996 to 1998, and once more from 1998 to 2017 at North Florida Shipyard.

In addition to experiencing daily asbestos exposure, Terry claims he also experienced secondary asbestos from his father Bernard B. who worked as a mechanic during Terry’s childhood. Furthermore, Glenda may also be at risk for developing asbestos disease because she regularly interacted with Terry and most likely handled the clothing containing attached asbestos fibers.

Terry alleges he worked with the defendants asbestos products but received no warnings about potential risks. Terry also alleges the companies did not provide any protective equipment, and he remained oblivious to the dangers of shipyard mesothelioma until recently.

Terry and Glenda are filing this asbestos lawsuit against CBS Corporation, Certainteed Corporation, and other manufacturers, seeking multiple damages and asserting claims for negligence and failure to warn.

Overview of Asbestos Exposure Danger

Asbestos disease can develop from either first-hand or second-hand exposure, with the victim inhaling or swallowing the dangerous fibers. Once they enter the body, the fibers can become lodged in the mucus lining of the lungs and eventually develop into mesothelioma.

It is important to note that mesothelioma is a very rare form of lung cancer specifically caused by asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma has an extremely long development period, often taking up to 50 years before showing any symptoms. This often results in latent diagnosis and limited treatment options, as well as a shortened life expectancy for patients. Due to the disease’s latency period, numerous cases of shipyard mesothelioma have recently been reported all over the country, along with other occupations in the manufacturing and industrial industries.

Asbestos was popularly used before the 1980s for numerous insulation applications due to its fire and chemical resistant qualities, which made it a popular choice for piping on United States Navy ships. Shipyard workers are considered one of the highest occupational risks in developing the disease, with the patient most likely having undergone regular interaction with asbestos products. For this reason, companies are required to give the general public disclosures of potential asbestos exposure if their products contain the toxic material.
