Apple in-app purchase settlementApple customers who submitted claims for a class action settlement over iPhone and iPod warranty repairs are receiving checks in the mail this week.

Viewers are reporting on TopClassAction.com’s Facebook page that they have received between $146.25 and $251.55 from the Apple warranty class action settlement:

Apple warranty settlement money

The Apple warranty settlement checks are from a class action lawsuit that alleged Apple knowingly used a faulty liquid detection tape in iPhone and iPod devices that indicated water damage even when there was none. The plaintiffs said the liquid detection tape could be triggered by temperature and humidity changes, but Apple allegedly failed to investigate the true cause of the device’s malfunction so that it could deny warranty coverage and force customers to purchase new or refurbished devices.

Apple denied the allegations but agreed to pay $53 million to settle the class action lawsuit in April 2013. Class Members of the Apple warranty settlement include Apple customers who attempted to repair or replace their iPhone on or before Dec. 31, 2009, or tried to repair or replace their iPod Touch device on or before June 30, 2010, and were denied based on the company’s former liquid damage policy. Eligible Class Members were expected to receive payments ranging from $105 to $130 from the class action settlement.

The deadline to file a claim was Oct. 21, 2013. [See our claim filing instructions here]

On May 8, 2014, a federal court granted final approval to the Apple warranty class action settlement.

I received 304 snd 251 for my claim. I always bought the newest with maximum memory snd never had one make it through warranty period and even with apple care every device was denied as liquid damage. I got to 4s before I have up on apple altogether.

Another law suit I had no knowledge of, I purchased two I phone s and an I pad. I had to pay out of pocket
because it seems that the $100.00 plus tax warranty did not cover anything.
I considered it a rip off.

    Thank you,

    Dorothy F Thomas

Any updates on the Shell Recording Class Settlement in Nguyen v Equilon Enterprises in CA Northern District Court; it which was finalized on August 26, 2.014 settled for 1.9 million? I am a class 2 member but have been unable to get a live representative to give me any updated info about how much we can expect or even how many exact claimants class 1 and or 2 were approved and authorized to receive a settlement. The court records said we would receive payment within 30 days of te final settlement; but the class administrator refuses to respond to inquiries and list a date as late as Nov. 5 to expect payments; not to mention there is a 90 day expiration clause on the awards if checks arent’ cashed within 90 days of Aug. 28-30. I can’t seem to find any updates besides the the final settlement date; if anyone else is a claim member post your feedback please I’d love to hear from you.

Yesterday I rec’d a tax document dated Oct. 15 regarding the settlement payment.

I don’t have a phone number or street address but I was told to mail the form back to the following:

      Nguyen v. Equilon Claims Administrator
      P.O. BOX 43034
      Providence, RI 02940-3034

      Hope this info helps.

      1. Vicki says:

I received the same tax document, did you send yours in? I’m hesitant b/c asks for my SSN and I’ve been looking online to make sure the claim # matches, which I haven’t found so not sure if should mail tax document.

        1. RonnieG says:

Send it in! Its normal procedure for settlements over $600. Though I received a settlement recently from old employer N.E.W. and I didn’t get sent that form so I was confused on that but it was a much smaller pool of class associates.

      2. RonnieG says:

Yes, I received and mailed that back in. The Class Admin dpt is not of much help, I finally contacted Eric Keller who responded immediately; thereafter Class Admin started answering my inquiries but no detail.I was concerned about the deadline stated that all checks have to be chased by 90 days of final hearing or they are voided. Also was tryna to figure out how many members Class2 were approved but no feedback rcvd. At this point by the time they replied I figured I may as well wait since checks are said to be mailed by Nov. 5.
