Apple iCloud Data Storage Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

Apple, Inc. has agreed to a $14.8 million settlement with customers who argue the company misled them about how their data would be stored on its iCloud service.
Plaintiff James Stewart implored a California federal court to accept the proposed settlement agreement on the basis that it is “fair” and reasonable.”
Stewart and Andrea Williams claimed in a 2019 class action lawsuit that Apple led them to believe it would store their data on its own infrastructure, when, in reality, the iCloud service their data was stored on was hosted by outside facilities.
Apple had in-fact lacked the proper infrastructure to host the data on its own, despite its representations to its users, Stewart and Williams claimed.
The place where their data was to be stored was material to customers, Stewart and Williams argued, since allowing them to handle it in the first place involves placing trust in a service provider.
The settlement amount would compensate customers for more than 40% of what an expert had calculated they were due in damages, according to an unopposed motion for preliminary approval.
Stewart says the agreed upon amount takes into account the “substantial” risks of litigation, which could end up leaving the class with nothing.
Class Members will not need to file claims to receive settlement funds, since Apple keeps a record of its iCloud users, according to the motion.
Apple agreed to pay $30 million to settle a separate class action lawsuit earlier this month that argued the company failed to compensate employees for the time it took to conduct security bag checks.

I have had an iPad since the 2nd generation came out, and I have no idea what my old phone numbers were to access my photos or anything in I cloud really. And I had an iPhone 11 that was supposed to be waterproof but the camera was too tight in those models and caused the lens to break. Apple wouldn’t fix the water damaged phone because the camera broke but it was a result of th design.
