All-Pro Solar LED Lights May Be a Dangerous Fire Hazard

All-Pro solar LED lights may pose a fire hazard and can potentially cause damage to homes due to an alleged defect in the lights’ batteries.

Solar power is generally considered a high tech energy source and is associated with large, clunky solar panels with little aesthetic appeal. However, technological advances have integrated solar power into the daily lives of Americans through items such as solar powered chargers, calculators, and solar lights.

Solar lights are a popular option for homeowners looking to decorate their yards without breaking the bank with electricity costs. The lights do not require an outlet and instead run off of power from the sun, making them both an environmentally friendly and economic choice for décor.

Solar lights come in a variety of forms. Some outdoor solar lights are mounted to stakes and used to light paths. Some more expensive solar lights act as security floor lights and are mounted on the home. In the latter case, a solar panel is often mounted in a place where it will receive sun and connected to the main unit through a wire.

However, not all solar lights are made equal. Recent reports suggest that some of these solar lights may be accompanied with the risk of starting a fire. Echoing battery safety issues recently brought up with Samsung smartphones and Garmin GPS units, Defiant and All-Pro solar LED lights are allegedly defective, causing the lights’ batteries to overheat and possibly melt the fixture. The All-Pro solar LED lights which may potentially pose a fire hazard were sold for $70 to $100 at major retailers such as Home Depot and Lowe’s between September 2015 and July 2018.

The model numbers of the affected Defiant and All-Pro solar LED lights are:

  • All-Pro: MST800L
  • All-Pro: MST800LW
  • All-Pro: WPS2040M
  • Defiant: MST1000LWDF
  • Defiant: MST1000LWDFC

All-Pro solar LED lights are often attached to a fence or directly to the home, meaning that excess heat could easily start a fire – putting lives in danger and damaging property.

So far, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has received seven reports regarding the All-Pro solar LED lights melting due to excess heat, prompting legal professionals to investigate the issue. The following All-Pro solar LED lights are under investigation for possibly creating fire hazards:

  • All-Pro LED: Solar Powered LED Floodlight/Solar Powered Motion Activated Security Lighting Black & White (Model #: MST800L, MST800LW)
  • All-Pro LED: Motion Activated — Diverge Off-Grid Lighting System (Model #: WPS2040M)
  • Defiant LED: Solar Powered Motion Security Light (Model #: MST1000LWDF, MST1000LWDFC)

Although no legal action has been taken by consumers, the investigation by attorneys may uncover evidence which could play a key role in a lawsuit against Eaton, the company which manufacturers Defiant and All-Pro solar LED lights. A lawsuit against the company may aim to hold them accountable for selling a defect product. Legal action may also be able to recover compensation for a defective product, property damage, and more.
