Southern California Edison Equipment Could Have Contributed to Property DamageThose individuals who recently suffered property damage from the Thomas Fire that occurred last year in California might be interested to learn that Southern California Edison could bear some responsibility.

When the fires spread quickly throughout the area, they posed a risk of property damage and bodily injury. Further investigation revealed that such an issue might have been tied to an accidental fire that started directly due to electrical equipment.

Defective electrical equipment installed in the area near where at least one of the fires started has recently been identified as a potential issue. The spread of the Thomas Fire occurred quickly and destroyed property as the flames moved throughout the region.

Many consumers with home insurance policies often don’t realize how little their policy covers when a fire causes both internal and external damage on their property. Usually the majority of the home insurance policy is directed towards the structure and the interior. But fixing the outside and landscaping can also be very expensive, and it may get little or no insurance coverage.

Thomas Fire property damage has been connected to Southern California Edison’s equipment, according to a recent investigation. The utility company recently shared that their electrical equipment was at least partially to blame for beginning the Thomas Fire last year that affected thousands of acres across Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

Witnesses who were in the area in which the Thomas Fire property damage began say that they saw one of the origin points for the fire near an SCE power poll, according to NPR. According to their insight, one of at least two origin points for the fire had begun in early December and then later burned for weeks.

The second origin point for the blaze that caused significant Thomas Fire property damage, occurred in the Anlauf Canyon area near Ventura County. However, Southern California Edison has not yet shared whether or not their equipment was involved in the ignition that sparked that fire. Agencies investigating the disaster have yet to release an official cause of the fire but anticipate doing so by the end of November.

At the time of its occurrence, the Thomas Fire was the largest in California’s modern history. Those individuals who suffered tree damage and property damage directly caused by the Thomas Fire might not even be aware that Southern California Edison equipment could have been behind igniting the blaze. The Thomas Fire destroyed more than 1,000 structures in addition to fencing, landscaping, trees, and vegetation.

While the comprehensive value of building a home is usually covered by property insurance policies, trees and landscaping are not since only approximately five percent of insurance policies have been set aside for tree damage.

Many of the properties that sustained Thomas Fire property damage, possibly as a result of Southern California Edison equipment, had extensive and older trees that added a great deal of usefulness and value to the property. Those individuals whose insurance coverage did not extend to trees and other landscaping options can investigate their options for filing a lawsuit.
