Cuisinart Pressure Cookers at Risk for Exploding, Says OwnerA consumer class action lawsuit says Cuisinart pressure cookers explode because of a defect, adding to a growing problem reported by consumers.

Plaintiff Shelly Wicklund claims that she purchased a new Cuisinart Electric Pressure Cooker, Model Number CPC-600 from Focus Camera LLC. She says that her pressure cooker and many other pressure cookers like it possess a defect that causes the pressure cookers to explode during normal use.

The device’s lid is held in place during use by a lock pin, but Shelly says the lock pin can be broken when the lid is rotated with normal force. She also says that the strike plate has a metal construction that is very flexible and gives excessive clearance. She says these defects in the strike plate and lock pin combine to make the device unsafe, and can cause the device to explode during use.

Wicklund’s Cuisinart pressure cookers class action lawsuit says that because of these problems,  the lid locking feature of the pressure cooker can be “easily overcome, allowing the lid to be rotated and removed when there is still pressure inside the unit.” She also claims that this means that the pressure cooker can be “fully pressurized without the lid being securely attached and can result in the lid explosively separating from the Pressure Cooker unexpectedly.”

Allegedly, neither of the lid locking features that are supposed to make the device safe to be used work effectively, and many consumers have had Cuisinart pressure cookers explode.

Consumers have filed a number of lawsuits over the issue of exploding pressure cookers. Some consumers claim that they have been injured by the problem, being burned by hot food exploding onto them, or being burned by the hot steam released by the device when it does not properly seal.

Some consumers have reported experiencing first, second, and even third degree burns from pressure cookers exploding, and are seeking compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, disfigurement, and lost wages due to the time they had to take off of work to heal from the injury.

Other people who have filed lawsuits like Shelly’s Cuisinart Pressure Cookers class action lawsuit are claiming that they didn’t get what they paid for, because they thought they were receiving a functional device when they purchased it, but in fact received a device that was defective and dangerous. These consumers allege they would not have bought their Cuisinart Pressure Cookers if they had been properly informed about the risk of explosion.

Many people argue that companies like Cuisinart knew or should have known that the pressure cookers were defective and dangerous, and knowingly put customers in danger to increase their profits.

Cuisinart Pressure Cookers aren’t the only pressure cookers to possibly have this problem. Other pressure cooker brands that may be susceptible to this problem include:

  • Aldi
  • Crofton
  • Cuisinart
  • Other Maxi-Matic pressure cookers
  • Tristar
  • Wolfgang Puck
  • Others
