A couple alleging they’ve both suffered from cancer because of Roundup has asked that their Roundup cancer risk trial be scheduled sooner.

The plaintiffs, Alva and Alberta P., are a couple in their 70s who were diagnosed with lymphoma cancer, which they allege was caused by exposure to Monsanto’s popular weedkiller product, Roundup. They say they were never warned of this Roundup cancer risk.

The couple claims that the chemotherapy they’re undergoing to treat their alleged Roundup cancer is causing “chemo brain,” which they claim will impair cognitive ability to participate in the trial over time. While they are both in remission, their attorney noted in a hearing that it was only partial remission, and both plaintiffs are still receiving chemotherapy treatments.

According to the attorney’s argument, the couple are suffering side effects from chemotherapy including hearing and memory loss, neuropathy in their toes, double vision, seizures, and “constant discomfort.”

In a similar product liability case over Roundup cancer risk, another plaintiff with lymphoma—a school groundskeeper exposed to herbicides—was awarded $289 million.

Roundup Cancer Risk

Roundup is a popular weedkiller product manufactured by Monsanto, which was officially acquired by Bayer in June.

The name Monsanto has been tinged with controversy since it became associated with Roundup cancer risk. As a result, Bayer has decided to rid themselves of the name “Monsanto” entirely. “Bayer will remain the company name,” said Bayer in a statement. “Monsanto will no longer be a company name. The acquired products will retain their brand names and become part of the Bayer portfolio.”

The move to leave behind Monsanto’s name comes after thousands of lawsuits were filed over Monsanto Roundup cancer risk—litigation which Bayer took on as it purchased the company.

The popular weedkiller product has been linked with Roundup cancer risk, including the risk of lymphoma. In the 1980s, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) first began to suspect a connection between Roundup and cancer risk. In a March 2015 report by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), researchers concluded that glyphosate (Roundup’s active ingredient) is capable of causing cancer.

Those most threatened by Roundup cancer risk include farm workers and home gardeners, who may consistently be exposed to Roundup. So far, a slew of lawsuits have been filed against Monsanto, with allegations of Roundup cancer caused by exposure to the weedkiller.

Roundup cancer risk may involve a number of cancers, including but not limited to:

• Lymphoma
• Leukemia
• Multiple Myeloma
• Bone cancer
• Renal Cell Carcinoma (kidney cancer)
