Adolescent Use of JUUL Vape Electronic Cigarette Products Reportedly Reaching Epidemic ProportionsPeople who choose to buy an electronic cigarette may be trying to quit smoking traditional cigarettes, but the FDA is warning that the JUUL vape cigarette might make the nicotine addiction worse.

In addition, the JUUL vape electronic cigarette is reportedly contributing to the growing problem of teen vaping and is warning that this particular brand may carry large amounts of nicotine.

The FDA stated in a recent letter that JUUL vape electronic cigarettes may be contributing to nicotine addiction because the device delivers nicotine to the bloodstream faster. When the nicotine enters the bloodstream at a faster rate, the likelihood of addiction increases dramatically.

According to recent statistics, there was a 75 percent  increase in electronic cigarette use in teenagers from 2017 to 2018.

Electronic cigarettes have been steadily growing in popularity over the years for a number of reasons, including the different sweet flavors that can be smoked. However, the use of candy and fruit flavorings makes electronic cigarettes especially popular with children and teenagers.

The JUUL vape electronic cigarette is the size of a USB thumb drive and can easily be concealed in different settings like at school or at home.

Overview of JUUL Vape Electronic Cigarette Problems

The number of teens addicted to electronic cigarettes continues to grow even with the efforts of health officials trying to warn America’s youth against them. The FDA is also contributing to this awareness campaign, with the agency putting advertisements up in high school bathrooms.

According to the FDA’s Youth Tobacco Prevention Plan, the agency’s goal is to educate almost 11 million children and teenagers ages 12 to 17 who have already used or are planning to use electronic cigarette products and other flavored tobacco products.

The FDA launched its “The Real Cost” campaign in 2014 and recently initiated its 2018 continuation in what the FDA calls a “full-scale e-cigarette prevention campaign.”

The awareness campaign will reportedly use social media and in school advertisements, which will hopefully help curve the growing problem. The FDA stated that teen vaping statistics had reached “epidemic proportions” and was planning to take “historic action” against JUUL and certain other electronic cigarette companies — using funds from historic tobacco company settlements.

According to letters by United States senators in April 2018 that were sent to JUUL and the FDA, which described the dangers of the company’s electronic cigarette.

The letters stated that JUUL vape electronic cigarettes and its flavor pods are “undermining our nation’s efforts to reduce tobacco use among youth and putting an entire new generation of children at risk of nicotine addiction and other health consequences.”

In addition, a recent study had also found that one in 11 teens have vaped marijuana using electronic cigarette products. Each JUUL vape flavor pod contains approximately 200 puffs, which is as much as a pack of cigarettes.

According to reports, JUUL vape electronic cigarette products had used social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram to advertise their products and were often seen by children and teenagers.

JUUL vape products were also reportedly marketed as fashionable and allegedly featured younger looking models that would most likely appeal to a younger audience. These advertisements allegedly contained no warnings against nicotine addiction, with some people taking legal action against JUUL.
