female students pursue lawsuit against USC gynecologist for sexual abuseEleven women have filed a lawsuit in California Superior Court against USC gynecologist Dr. George Tyndall and the university itself, alleging they were among hundreds of women who were subject to Tyndall’s sexual misconduct.

According to this lawsuit, the female plaintiffs were all undergraduate or graduate students at USC pursuing bachelor-level or advanced degrees when they developed gynecological concerns. These issues forced them to seek the services of USC gynecologist Tyndall, as he was the sole provider of this type of care at the USC Health Services Center.

Because he was the only provider in this area of women’s health, USC gynecologist Tyndall purportedly gained access to young females of vulnerable age like the plaintiffs for the purpose of sexually harassing, molesting, and abusing them under the guise of medical treatment.

As indicated in the lawsuit’s introduction, USC gynecologist Tyndall allegedly targeted international students and ethnic students as subjects of his sexual misconduct because of their additional measure of naivete. Most of his female patients had never had a prior pelvic exam and has no way of gauging normalcy in that context, the plaintiffs claim.

Disturbing Details Revealed

According to the reports of the eleven Jane Does and up to 300 others that have filed previous cases, USC gynecologist Tyndall would use a camera to take pictures of their genitalia, probe and then penetrate their vulva and vaginas digitally, observe peritoneal region closely for diagnosis of potential disease, and make crude and unprofessional commentary throughout the pelvic examination.

As indicated in the factual section of the lawsuit, chaperones were often assigned to be present in the room with Dr. Tyndall when he was doing pelvic exams of female patients. Nevertheless, these chaperones reportedly went out of the examination rooms while the USC gynecologist was engaged in sexually abusive behavior with students.

Allegedly because of this complicit chaperone behavior and evidence in the files of the late Dr. Lawrence Neinstein, who was Tyndall’s supervisor, USC is accused in this lawsuit of knowing of, protecting and harboring a sexual predator. Eight complaints were found dated between the year 2000 and 2014 from students in these files.

The complaints indicated that female students were often instructed to remain completely naked on an exam table while Dr. Tyndall visually looked at them for “unusual moles.” These bodily scans often involved intimate areas and were accompanied by inappropriate comments about parts related to ethnic heritage in some situations.

In 2016, employees of USC’s Health Services Center found a box of genital pictures in Dr. Tyndall’s office. Although evidence existed of his behavior as far back as the year 2000, it was only then that USC decided to act. Dr. Tyndall was prevented from contact with students and suspended immediately.

The USC Sexual Abuse Lawsuit is Case No. BC720789 in the Superior Court for the State of California for the County of Los Angeles, Central District.
