Men Living Near Ground Zero Reporting 9/11 Breast CancerA growing number of cases of 9/11 breast cancer are being reported due to toxins that were in the air at the time of the tragic event. Two men who worked near the World Trade Center on 9/11 were later diagnosed with breast cancer.

They believe their 9/11 breast cancer was directly caused by the toxins that they inhaled during the event and the cleanup itself.

Both of those most recent male patients with 9/11 breast cancer are doing well following chemotherapy, radiation and mastectomies. More men who worked in that area or lived there after the dust settled could be at risk for developing 9/11 cancer in the future.

There are more than two dozen men who have gathered to file their claims of 9/11 breast cancer with other victims, and representatives for that group of men with 9/11 breast cancer say that males should be checked particularly if they were south of Canal Street on September 11th or during the eight months that followed.

This kind of 9/11 breast cancer might be difficult to trace with men in particular, because breast cancer is not frequently diagnosed in men. Unfortunately, however, a growing number of men are reporting their concerns after developing 9/11 breast cancer.

While breast cancer does primarily affect women, and therefore most of the research and advocacy efforts are directed towards women’s cases, men do suffer from breast cancer. And breast cancer could be tied to living or working near Ground Zero, but many other kinds of cancer types have popped up for people in that area, too.

Many different types of cancer could entitle a diagnosed victim to recover compensation through the 9/11 victim’s compensation fund. A 9/11 breast cancer diagnosis should be taken seriously particularly because it could have been directly caused by working or living in or around the area.

Men who could be at risk for developing 9/11 breast cancer should be aware of any hard lump underneath or near the nipple or other changes in their breast tissue.

These concerns should be brought to the attention of a physician immediately. Unfortunately, many men who do have the symptoms of 9/11 breast cancer ignore the symptoms and by the time they are finally diagnosed with breast cancer, the situation has metastasized.

A diagnosis of 9/11 cancer could entitle someone who has suffered, medical expenses, lost wages and more to recover compensation through the Victim’s Compensation Fund. The victim’s compensation fund was initially created shortly after the 9/11 attacks, but more people are coming forward with cancer claims of many different types in recent years.

Some types of cancer have a long latency period and might not develop until years after the initial exposure to the problematic toxins. Men who believe they could be at risk for 9/11 breast cancer should consult with their physician immediately to receive an appropriate diagnosis.

Early detection is critical for identifying 9/11 breast cancer and will give men the best possible opportunity to receive treatment, but victims might need support from the Victim’s Compensation Fund if they’ve already been diagnosed.

Navigating the complex and burdensome paperwork and strict deadlines to participate in the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund can be difficult. An experienced 9/11 Victim Fund attorney can help and ensure you get the maximum compensation available.

If you were present near Ground Zero, generally considered to be Lower Manhattan below Canal Street, between September 11, 2001 and May 31, 2002, and were diagnosed with cancer 4 years or more after exposure (or 1 year or more for blood and bone cancers), you may qualify for compensation.
