A new case has been added to the Taxotere chemotherapy MDL, claiming that women were never appropriately warned about the possibility of permanent hair loss when undergoing chemotherapy with the drug.
While most women undergoing cancer treatment, including Taxotere chemotherapy, recognize that short term hair loss is a common side effect of the chemotherapy doing its work to fight cancer, many women have suffered long term hair loss following treatment with Taxotere.
The most recent Taxotere chemotherapy lawsuit joins MDL 2740. The plaintiff in this Taxotere chemotherapy lawsuit, Ana V., alleges that she suffered permanent hair loss as a result of the Taxotere chemotherapy treatment made by Sanofi-Aventis.
Taxotere Lawsuit
Ana’s Taxotere chemotherapy lawsuit says that the company is responsible for failing to advise patients about the possibility of sustaining permanent hair loss.
Ana says in her lawsuit that she used the Taxotere chemotherapy treatment between September 2015 through January 2016. According to the arguments made in her claim, she experienced permanent hair loss on her scalp as well as the loss of her eyelashes and eyebrows.
Due to Taxotere side effects, Ana states that there are numerous bald spots throughout her scalp and that she has sustained emotional injuries connected to the hair loss. The Taxotere chemotherapy lawsuit was filed against Sanofi-Aventis on multiple counts, including negligent misrepresentation, negligence, failure to warn, fraud and deceit, fraudulent concealment, and fraudulent misrepresentation.
Taxotere Treatment
While many of the women who use chemotherapy drugs were advised by their physicians that they may suffer side effects like hair loss, many of them argue that they were not informed in an appropriate manner that this hair loss, such as that resulting from Taxotere chemotherapy treatment, could be permanent.
Women trying to make a decision about the type of cancer treatment best suited to them may not have had all the pertinent information in front of them when opting for treatment with Taxotere. Those who discovered and suffered permanent hair loss claim they suffer from emotional injuries, too.
Many of these women have chosen to file Taxotere chemotherapy lawsuits, arguing that the manufacturers failed to disclose this risk to patients so that patients could decide whether or not the benefits outweigh the possible risks.
Some of the women who filed Taxotere claims have had their hair grow back unevenly like Ana, but have not been able to sustain hair growth throughout their scalp or other affected areas. Numerous women have come forward alleging they have experienced similar outcomes and argue that Sanofi should be held accountable for the permanent and painful hair loss side effects.
Women who went through Taxotere chemotherapy and then struggled to regain hair growth after the fact want to hold the manufacturer accountable for a side effect patients believe should be publicized, as it can be a lot to cope with for a patient.
Ana’s Taxotere Chemotherapy Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-08476-JTM-MBN, filed in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana.
