USC Gynecologist Faces over 300 Lawsuits Alleging Sexual MisconductA former USC gynecologist has been accused by hundreds of women of sexual misconduct, prompting an investigation by local authorities into his alleged sex crimes.

The actions of former USC gynecologist Dr. George Tyndall are currently under investigation by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office after Los Angeles police detectives brought forward almost 30 cases of alleged sexual misconduct, according to CBS. LAPD Captain Billy Hayes has said that the number of cases could increase to 50 with new women coming forward.

“This is the most victims for one perpetrator that I can recall in LAPD history,” said Hayes in a statement to The Los Angeles Times.

Tyndall was the only full time USC gynecologist at the Engemann Student Health Center for almost 30 years. After receiving reports of improper pelvic exams and inappropriate comments, USC began investigating Tyndall in 2016. However, the school did not fire the USC gynecologist until June 2017.

After the news of the investigation was released, hundreds of lawsuits were filed against both Tyndall and USC. Plaintiffs have brought complaints against Tyndall for alleged sexual misconduct, and they accuse USC of trying to cover up the wide spread abuse.

According to women in the lawsuits, Tyndall targeted girls as young as 18 who have never had a gynecological exam before. Having no prior experience, they were unable to recognize the USC gynecologist’s behavior for what it was: sexual abuse.

Women have alleged that Tyndall touched them inappropriately and in ways that were not medically necessary. The USC gynecologist also allegedly made numerous inappropriate comments about patients and their genitals during exams.

Other USC lawsuits claim that Tyndall made “repeated racially discriminatory and sexually inappropriate remarks.” These remarks reportedly got Tyndall placed on leave in 2016 and prompted USC’s terminations proceedings. Tyndall responded to the termination threats with legal action, but the two parties reached a settlement in 2017 and he left the university.

Tyndall is not the only party under fire in the lawsuits. Numerous plaintiffs have called out the USC administration, alleging that the school failed to respond to reports of sexual abuse and covered up the scandal. A former health center director allegedly received eight reports of Tyndall’s misconduct between 2000 and 2014, but did not act on the reports.

“USC nurses, chaperones and other staff members were regularly present in the examination rooms, observed the inappropriate sexual molestation, and took no steps to stop it as it occurred,” alleges one lawsuit.

As a result of the backlash against USC, the school’s president C.L. Max Nikias officialy resigned in August, and two longtime administrators for the student health clinic were fired. However, the university denies any wrongdoing or coverup.

If you were sexually assaulted by Dr. George Tyndall during his tenure as a USC gynecologist, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit against him and the university. Over 300 lawsuits have already been filed regarding the issue, aiming to hold Tyndall and USC accountable for the widespread sexual abuse and recover compensation for emotional damage and more.
