Out of Network Insurance Billing Can Lead to Surprise Medical BillsHave you recently gotten a medical bill that you weren’t expecting? More consumers are reporting issues with out of network insurance billing and costly medical expenses linked to it after they had a procedure. Many didn’t realize they’d get a massive bill after the fact.

Those consumers who have experienced unexpected out of network insurance billing could be coping with costly medical bills they never anticipated.

The practice of out of network insurance billing has garnered criticism from numerous consumers and advocates in the industry who argue that patients are never informed about this practice until they receive a medical bill after the fact. Unfortunately, out of network insurance billing has also become more common.

This can lead someone to experience out of control and costly medical bills. If you have ever received a catastrophic medical bill even though you have health insurance, you may be eligible to participate in legal action due to the practice of out of network insurance billing.

One history teacher and swim coach from Texas was hit with an enormous surprise bill after he had a heart attack at his home. In April 2017, he was rushed to an area medical center where he was informed by physicians that he needed emergency stents to open clogged arteries. Immediately, the patient asked whether or not his health insurance would cover the surgery.

The patient at that time stated that the medical center he was at was out of network for a school district’s health plan. However, he was informed by the hospital in question that he was indeed covered, and the surgery was performed. Ultimately, however, the patient was billed more than $108,000 due to out of network insurance billing.

Out of network insurance billing is particularly associated with a practice known as balance billing. This occurs when the insurance company and the out of network hospital disagreed on a reasonable price for care. When the insurance company paid what they believed to be their fair portion, they demanded that the patient pay the rest.

Balance billing is controlled, limited, or prohibited to certain conditions in particular states, but there can be exceptions. Whether or not your employer fits with the rules in your states that apply to the health insurance companies, it is of critical importance when it comes to lodging complaints or lawsuits associated with out of network insurance billing.

If you have received a large balance bill, despite the fact that you have health insurance and are curious about what you need to do next, you may be eligible to participate in an out of network insurance billing class action lawsuit investigation. Your eligibility to recover compensation may rely on the specifics of your individual state, and getting insight regarding a pending investigation can be extremely helpful for your future.

Please add me. Got a bill from 5/2016 2016 when I had surgery. We I did the pre-op I ask each physician who came to visit me prior my surgery were they in my network as prefer providers.(seriously I did ask, because I knew I was going to be out for a bit) everyone said yes. Now I received a bill from an attorney for this dr who was in the room when I had my surgery. I couldn’t wake up out of surgery to ask to make sure everyone was a Preferred provider.Lol

Same issue here! Yesterday, I got a big surprise – a very bad one. An out-of-network(maybe in network?) doctor sent me a bill – $2275 for 4/13/2018(I went to an emergency room and stayed there only one night in the Regional Medical Hospital, San Jose, CA. Why did he send me the bill so late – 8 months later. He actually had sent me a small bill of $21.25 for the same thing in late April, and I paid him right away. What’s this doctor doing – try to rob money from me for Christmas. When I was in the hospital on 4/13/2018, I checked: his name was in the network. It looked like my insurance company – United Health Care had refused to pay him. I just checked this doctor(Sanjay Bindra, MD) again – his name is still in network, but his address posted on the bill(he mailed the bill to me) is different from the one posted on myUHC.com. How many doctors named Sanjay Bindra in my area? Very confused :(

Please add me. Several out of network charges never ingormed until bills arrived. Aurora hospital labs normally 90 – 120.00 in network but charged 3,150.00 2x now out of network. All of my Nlneck surgery billed in network but anestesiology charges out of network.
