IED Blast, EFP Attack InvestigationUnder U.S. law, military members, veterans, and contractors who were injured by an EFP or IED blast while fighting in the Iraq or Afghanistan wars may be entitled to file a lawsuit against banks that help fund terrorist groups.

In the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, Iran was recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism and was a major cause of American casualties in the wars. Several foreign banks have admitted that they entered into criminal conspiracies with Iran to provide billions of dollars to fund their terrorist involvement in the wars.

This money was then used by Iran to pay terrorists and coalition forces attacking U.S. military personnel Reportedly, these payments were illegal, because Congress put sanctions in place preventing Iran from engaging in terrorists acts, or from sponsoring terrorism.

These sanctions were also designed to limit Iran’s ability to obtain funds they could use to obtain weapons like IEDs, EFPs, IRAMs or RAMs.  Nonetheless, banks around the world have allegedly helped Iran fund their involvement in the Iraq and Iran war.

Banks that have already reached settlements with the United States include:

  • Barclays Plc.
  • BNP Parisbas S.A.
  • Commerzbank A.G.
  • Crédit Suisse AG and Crédit Suisse Asset Management Limited
  • HSBC Holding Group Plc.
  • Standard Chartered Bank Plc.

Types of Ammunition Used in Iraq and Afghanistan Wars

Iran reportedly supplied a number of different kinds of weapons in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars:

  • IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices): These weapons use detonating mechanisms and are often used as roadside bombs. IED blast attacks were responsible for many deaths in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. In fact, between the beginning of the Iraq war and 2007, 63 percent of coalition deaths were caused by IEDs, and in the Afghanistan war, 66 percent of coalition deaths were caused by IEDs.
  • EFPs (Explosively Formed Penetrators): these weapons are designed to pierce armor and can travel over 100 yards while maintaining their shape. They are also easy to camouflage as rocks or trash. As a result, EFPs were named “the most lethal weapon American forces faced in Iraq” by the New York Times.

These weapons were reportedly manufactured in Iranian factories despite the sanctions put in place by the U.S. government. According to Mike Mullen in 2011, who served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, weapons were sent to Iraq from Iran to support Shiite extremists, and top Iranian government officials knew of these actions.
