Dresser Tip Over Risk is Serious and Could Harm Young ChildrenThe risk of dresser tip over accidents has been publicized in numerous different news articles and studies indicating that young children and toddlers in particular are at risk of suffering the consequences.

A dresser tip over accident could lead to significant injuries or even fatal injuries. If parents are not aware of the risks or are not in the area when the child accidentally causes a dresser tip over accident, they may not be able to respond in time and provide important lifesaving actions.

Although some manufacturers of dressers do adhere to industry standards, far too many children die as a result of dresser tip over accidents.

Many different consumer safety advocates argue that there are no current laws to help prevent future tragedies in terms of dresser tip over accidents. Unfortunately, even when paramedics arrive to the scene as quickly as possible, they might not be able to revive a child. The very weight of a dresser in a tip over accident can suffocate a child very quickly or could cause significant head and neck injuries.

Although many parents may believe that their dresser tip over accident is an isolated one, unfortunately, federal safety regulators are already aware of the sometimes fatal event that affects thousands of U.S. families every single year.

Unfortunately, some parents have also realized that certain manufacturers of dressers were aware of the risks in particular product lines, yet failed to recall the product until after numerous reports were filed by parents. The dresser tip over problem in the United States, according to some, is an epidemic.

According to Consumer Reports, every 17 minutes, someone in the United States is injured by an appliance, a piece of furniture or a television that tips over and causes significant and life changing injuries. Tip over injuries estimated for children younger than six involving storage units and dressers increased in 2016, according to information collected and shared by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Approximately 11 percent of furniture tip over injuries are directly related to dressers, and between 2000 and 2016, there were more than 195 deaths reported in relation to tip over accidents.

Consumers expect that the products they buy will be safe to use in their homes. Whether or not a recalled dresser tips over and causes injury, purchasers have the right to get the safe product they paid for. Many would have made a different purchase had they known all the relevant facts about these products.

If you purchased a dresser that later was recalled due to a risk of tipping over, you might be eligible to pursue a lawsuit filed against the manufacturers of the furniture. Scheduling a consultation with an experienced recall attorney can help determine your eligibility to participate in a dresser tip over class action investigation.
