A Lyft passenger involved in a fatal, head-on Lyft car accident has filed a lawsuit against the popular rideshare company, along with both of the drivers.
The plaintiff, Abraham V., alleges he was injured in a Lyft car accident in the early morning of June 8 near Chicago’s Humboldt Park. Abraham was not the only passenger injured in the Lyft car accident—but he was the only passenger to survive. The other passenger, Anudari B., was killed in the Lyft car accident due to blunt force head trauma. Abraham escaped with a concussion.
Abraham filed the Lyft car accident lawsuit against Lyft, as well as Lyft driver Elizabeth R. and the other driver, Travis A., who did not drive for Lyft.
Both Travis and Elizabeth were charged with driving under the influence. The rideshare company said in a statement that, “Immediately upon hearing these allegations, we deactivated the driver … Lyft has zero tolerance policy for the behavior described.”
Abraham’s attorney told the Chicago Sun-Times, “When the public hires a ride-sharing car, such as Lyft, it has a right to expect that the driver is not impaired for any reason. We expect and demand that we get to our destination safely.”
Abraham filed his Lyft car accident lawsuit on June 14, 2018, in the Cook County Circuit Court.
Personal Injuries
Vehicle accidents can be devastating, but those who have suffered from car accident injuries may find that filing a personal injury lawsuit can help them with compensation. Personal injury claims, like this Lyft car accident lawsuit, rest on the concept of negligence—that is, the idea that another party’s negligence or carelessness led directly to your injuries.
Negligence is legally defined as “the failure to do an act which a reasonably careful person would do, or the doing of an act which a reasonably careful person would not do, under the same or similar circumstances to protect oneself or others from bodily injury, death, property damage.”
Filing a Personal Injury Lawsuit
A car accident lawsuit is a common form of personal injury litigation. Other personal injury lawsuits include birth injuries, slip and falls, dog bites, medical malpractice, and work injuries, among many others.
If you have a personal injury claim and want to seek compensation, you may be able to file a lawsuit. A personal injury lawsuit can help compensate for medical bills, lost income, physical pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, disability or disfigurement, property damage, emotional distress, and/or wrongful death. Filing a personal injury lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by injuries, but it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.
If you or a loved one were injured due to the negligence of another party, and you have recoverable damages, you may have a viable personal injury lawsuit. Get a free evaluation of your potential case by filling out the form on this page now!
