Class Action Lawsuit Investigation Initiated Over Charmin Freshmates Flushable WipesDue to customer complaints over Charmin Freshmates flushable wipes, a class action lawsuit investigation has been initiated.

Consumer complaints about the Charmin Freshmates flushable wipes say they’re as flushable as they have been advertised. They were labeled as “flushable and safe for sewers and septic systems” and even safer than toilet paper. However, consumer complaints surrounding the Charmin Freshmates flushable wipes say they toilet pipes, backing up sewers, and causing septic tank problems.

As a result of this damage, many consumers say they have had to pay up hundreds and even thousands of dollars in repairs.

Charmin Freshmates Flushable Wipes

People have long used wet wipes for personal hygiene purposes, and that is no surprise as sales of wet wipes have become a $6 billion-a-year industry. Since 2007, sales for wet wipes have increased by 5 to 6 percent a year.

However, during this time there have been a rise in complaints from wastewater treatment officials reporting increased pump breakdowns, sewer backups and overflow. This is all being traced back to flushable wet wipes.

Charmin Freshmates flushable wipes are small moist towelettes that can be moistened with water and other liquids. They can also be made from different material such as viscose fibers, non-woven fabric, and paper. They can also be made to produce a certain “feeling” when used and can be treated with perfume, lotion, or softener.

However, what makes flushable wet wipes different is that to do their job effectively and for them to be used for personal hygiene purposes, they do not break apart easily. As a result, they are not even broken up easily right after they are flushed.

In fact, according to a Consumer Reports test, their testing on several types of flushable wipe brands had led them to advise consumers to just simply not flush “flushable” wipes.

The 2013 Consumer Reports test tested four different kinds of flushable wipe brands, including Charmin Freshmates flushable wipes. The test discovered that, to break moist towelettes apart, it took 10 minutes in a stand mixer. To break towelettes apart after flushing there needs to be vigorous churning of the towelettes, and flushing them just does not provide that.

Marketing claims by manufacturers of flushable wipes tell consumers that it is perfectly safe to flush the wipes and that flushable wipes are in fact sewer-and-septic safe, can break up post flushing, and are indeed flushable. But consumers are experiencing a multitude of issues such as backed up septic tanks, clogged toilets, clogged pipes, and other plumbing problems. Clogged up pipes and backed up septic tanks can lead to many other issues including property damage and flooding.

Filing a Charmin Freshmates Flushable Wipes Lawsuit

Many consumers have filed lawsuits alleging that marketing claims by manufacturers of “flushable wipes” are untrue and have led them to suffer a multitude of issues simply because they are just not suited to be flushed down toilets.

Customers who purchased Charmin Freshmates flushable wipes allege that had they known of the damage that flushing flushable wipes would cause to their pipes, they would not have purchased flushable wipes to begin with, they say. By joining in a Charmin Freshmates flushable wipes class action lawsuit you could be awarded compensation for things such as repair bills for clogged up pipes, flooding damage, and for product purchases.

Add me to list of the class action suit of the flushable wipes. We had sewerage backup last Friday because of them. Plumber bill was $250.00 not to mention the personal items lost from the sewer water. Very unhappy customer.

    Good morning,
In reference to the Charmin lawsuit, would clearing the sewer line be part of it?
I’ve had my sewer line cleared numerous times. The last one about a month ago.
I’m renting the house I’m in. My landlord was very unhappy with the constant clearing out of the sewer line.
It’s $175.00 everytime the sewers clog.
I’m on SSD and its not easy to pay that.
    Thank you in advance,
    Beckie
