Takata airbag recall dashboardMillions of vehicles have been affected by a Takata airbag recall over major defects. If your vehicle was included in the Takata airbag recall, you may be eligible for compensation.

These airbags are reportedly defective, placing consumers at risk of serious injury due to explosions or spontaneous deployment, which can lead to injuries or even, in the worst cases, fatalities.

Vehicles from a number of major manufacturers were affected by the defect and included in the Takata airbag recall. A full list of vehicles affected by the Takata airbag recall can be found on our main investigation page.

Basics of the Takata Airbag

The airbag system from Takata is widely used in vehicles by a slew of major manufacturers. Unfortunately, this device has been associated with a couple of major defects: spontaneous deployment and even explosions.

According to reports, the metal cartridge inside can degrade and eventually explode, ejecting metal shrapnel. Consumers have also reported Takata airbags deploying spontaneously. These defects can cause serious injuries or even fatalities. Indeed, at least 22 people have reportedly been killed because of the defects.

Tens of millions of vehicles have been affected by the Takata airbag recall. Consumers allege that certain automakers have both failed to warn about the airbag defect and also failed to assist vehicle owners with the effects of the recall.

Takata Airbag Recall Hits Australia

The defective Takata airbag system has affected millions of vehicles across the globe. Recently, a Takata airbag recall was issued in Australia, affecting 2.3 million airbags—making it the largest compulsory product recall in Australian history.

The Australian Takata airbag recall give manufacturers two years to replace defective airbag inflators. Mitsubishi alone has replaced defective airbag inflators in 136,000 vehicles.

In an effort to get the word out about the recall, Mitsubishi Australia has purchased full-page advertisements in national newspapers to inform car owners affected by the defect, asking consumers to take action. Mitsubishi repair work to replace the defective devices is free of charge at Mitsubishi dealerships.

Including this new Australian addition to the recall, more than 100 million vehicles have been called back because of these Takata defects.

Takata has already paid massive amounts in fines over airbag defects, paying $1 billion to the U.S. Justice Department, another $25 million in fines, and a further $850 million to U.S. automakers to cover expenses of the Takata airbag recall.

Filing a Takata Airbag Recall Lawsuit

Consumers are alleging in a growing pile of litigation that car manufacturers were aware about the Takata exploding airbag defect for a significant period of time before issuing a warning.

Filing an Takata airbag recall lawsuit over either an explosion or spontaneous deployment defects cannot take away any pain and suffering caused in an accident or any property damage done to your car, but it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and repair work.
