Samsung Galaxy Note 4 defect smartphoneSamsung Galaxy Note 4 owners cringe when they see the dreaded error name “mmc read failed” show up on their device, knowing that it marks the beginning of the end of the functionality of the phone as they hope they had everything backed up for safekeeping.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 defect is apparently caused by the memory card in the device. The component is known as the embedded MultiMediaCard, or eMMC, which leads to the “mmc read failed” error message that displays upon the failure of the device.

Owners of the popular phone state that after they get the “mmc read failed message,” the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 defect leads to the phone freezing while in use, then rebooting or attempting to reboot until it ultimately fails to work at all.

Some consumers have been able to successfully use a work-around by installing an app known as Wake Lock. While this seems to prolong the life of the phone suffering from the fatal error, often it is just a temporary fix that will ultimately not save the phone. The work-around also drains the phone’s battery. So while the phone may work, the battery drain is a huge downside.

The only permanent fix for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 defect is to completely replace the motherboard of the phone, which can be quite pricey.

Also an eMMC fail victim. In my case it was worsened by a defective 128GB microSD heating up the phone more and causing other problems.
I found that adding thermal compound to the APU helped a bit (routine screen repair due to extreme burn in) but wasn’t aware of the spacer issue, though if I get another dead Note 4 needing a new screen will try this!!
Having the phone reboot at random turned out to be a failing battery in my case, replaced but the new battery did the same thing after <5 months. Put old battery back in and it went back to normal.

  2. Jose L Renteria says:

We have 2 Note 4 and were force to upgrade ours 1because it would freeze and it wouldn’t stop rebooting. I dont think it ws fare after paying $700 for it and we had to spend $1800 for 2 new Note 8. Add me to the list. Thank you.

  3. Jet says:

Is this suit still ongoing or has it failed to come to fruition? This was obviously a manufacture defect as it has been corrected by some creative placement of spacers on top of the EMMC chip but so far I have not found anywere that Samsung has admitted to any defect.
