Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Defect Basics

A Samsung Galaxy Note 4 class action lawsuit has been filed over early device failure caused by a substantial defect in its memory chip. The defect forces an error message reading “mmc_read failed,” signifying that the embedded Multi-Media Controller, or eMMC, failed. This is the component that contains essential functions like flash memory and the phone’s operating systems. Failure of the eMMC reportedly leads to freezing, rebooting, and eventually failure to work at all.

The problem isn’t quite unsolvable. Some Note 4 owners note that they can install the Wake Lock app, which can delay the memory card failure. This, however, reduces the battery life of the phone substantially. The only real fix for this fatal phone error message is replacing the motherboard completely. Note 4 users say that the problem began after an update to the Note 4 operating system. But customers are being asked to pay for these repairs.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Class Action Lawsuit

A recent Samsung Galaxy Note 4 class action lawsuit was filed by Note 4 customers who claim that Samsung was aware about the “mmc_error” defect, but actively concealed this error from customers, forcing them to pay for damages they didn’t even warn about. According to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 class action lawsuit, the defect has occurred on phones before the warranty period was up, and effectively render the phones non-functional.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 class action lawsuit alleges that Samsung “unjustly profited on this omission by routinely refusing to provide repairs free of charge.” This has led to substantial costs for consumers. One plaintiff claims that her repair cost more than $180 for this defect. The phone itself was purchased two years earlier for $700.

The lawsuit was filed on Aug. 4 on behalf of several plaintiffs whose own phones have suffered this fate, as well as others in their position. This Samsung Galaxy Note 4 class action lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including breach of implied warranty, unjust enrichment, and violations of various state laws.

    I also am experiencing this and only now found out by googling note 4 rebooting or dieing even with 70% or more battery life left! I figured it was because It was time for a new one (I’ve had it 2 years before this suddenly started to occur – and yes after an update as I think about it). Thought is was related to the camera because I could take one picture and boom off it goes. I also wondered about the battery because if it reboots, it gets stuck and if I don’t plug in fast, it really gets stuck on the “orange” Verizon (for me) splash start up screen and if that happens you can feel that battery heating up bad so I quickly got all apart (first couple times was all the armor I had on it – otter box etc) and take it out for few minutes and put back in and start back up but have to pretty much leave my phone plugged in. I just ordered a new Note 9, but now I am worried this problem will occur with it and geezuz these phones are expensive! wondering if should just take the 14-day return hit for $50 and choose a different brand phone. I love the Note and this really sucks! So is this class action closed then?

    Oh boy! I have this problem with not one, but two note 4 phones! I had the Sprint warranty and had it replaced. The original phone started the reboot and mmc error after 7 months. The replacement also started the same problem after 7 months. On the replacement phone, I did not download any updates but it came with the current update at that time.
    I started a thread on Samsung’s website for customers about this problem. Hundreds of people commented on that thread. All with the same problem. I also used Wake Lock to keep it going for a few months until it totally died. On that thread we all begged for a class action lawsuit but we did not know how to go about it.
    Please sign me up for the class action lawsuit.
    How did Samsung get away with this? Why didn’t our legal system help these thousands of consumers?

    Hi i paid $700 for my note 4 edge and only had it 11 months it did this and now will not turn on. This is rediculus. $700 is a lot of money to spend just to have it be a worthless paper weight… samsung is wrong to do this to its custoners. They make millions and its wrong they need to fix or replace tgese phones

    Has toanyone be replaced. Has a nice pricetage ti do that. I could get a new phone fir what they want to charge

    I would like to join this class action lawsuit. I am the recipient of a defected Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
    I have purchased 6 batteries for the phone and it still has the same error reboot failure when my battery is 70% full.
