Fyre Festival lawsuitDuped ticketholders who shelled out thousands of dollars to attend a failed festival they allege was a “get rich quick” scheme have asked a federal court to centralize their class action lawsuits in California, New York or Florida.

The organizers of the infamous Fyre Festival were hit with class action lawsuits after the event went down in flames of failed services and allegations of fraud.

Festival-goers alleged that they had been promised the experience of a lifetime on an exotic island, but arrived to find that event organizers had failed to obtain even basic services for the crowds.

The ticketholders are seeking more than $100 million in damages for the experience which they claim was billed as a luxurious “cultural event of a lifetime,” but featured “FEMA” tents as accommodations and a surprising lack of basic sanitation services.

Fyre Festival organizers, Jeffrey Atkins, also known as the rapper Ja Rule, and Billy McFarland, were hit with a number of lawsuits after the disappointing event and ticketholders are now asking the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to consolidate the cases. Currently, six actions are pending against Fyre Organizers.

One of the representatives for the ticketholders claimed that the class actions should be consolidated in California because most of the victims of the alleged fraud live there. Other representatives argued that the cases should be consolidated in Florida because that was the jumping off point for the debacle as festival-goers were instructed to depart for the doomed event from Miami.

Another ticketholder representative argued that New York is the appropriate place to hear the consolidated class actions because the bankruptcy proceedings are being held there for Fyre Festival LLC.

The plaintiffs also indicated that they plan to bring charges against Fyre Festival investors, along with anyone who knew or should have known that the event organizers were planning a colossal failure.

According to a representative for defendant Billy McFarland, federal agents picked up Mr. McFarland on federal wire fraud charges a few weeks ago.
