USPSThe United States Postal Service has implemented a new “Informed Delivery” service across most of the country that allows consumers to receive digital notifications of the mail they are going to receive before it’s delivered to their mailbox.

Informed Delivery is a useful service for consumers who are traveling and/or expecting important pieces of mail. It is is an excellent service for Class Members who have filed settlement claims and are concerned about their settlement checks getting lost or stolen. With Informed Delivery, claimants have visual confirmation that their payment was mailed and will know to expect the check.

If you receive notification through Informed Delivery that a piece of mail was sent but you don’t receive it, you can submit a delayed mail report to notify USPS that the mail was not delivered.

As part of its automated process for sorting and delivering physical mail, USPS creates digital images of the front of all pieces of mail that are run through its automation equipment. Until recently, these digital images were only used internally at USPS.

Recently, USPS started offering consumers the option of receiving digital notifications about the mail they should soon receive. This Informed Delivery service is an optional notification service that is now available to residential consumers.

Consumers who sign up for Informed Delivery will be sent an email from USPS with greyscale images of the front of letter-size pieces of mail that will soon be delivered. Notifications are sent only on days that mail is being processed, and the information for up to 10 pieces of mail will be included in the email. Consumers can view additional images of their mail online. These images are reportedly available online for seven days and can be viewed using a computer, tablet or mobile device.

As of April 14, Informed Delivery is available to the majority of ZIP codes in the United States, according to USPS. To find out if your address is eligible for Informed Delivery, visit https://InformedDelivery.USPS.com/box/pages/intro/start.action.

There are some limitations about consumers’ ability to sign up for Informed Delivery. The consumer must live at an eligible residential address and USPS must be able to verify the consumer’s identity. If you’re eligible for Informed Delivery, you can create an account at USPS.com to sign up for the service.

Once you’re signed in to your USPS.com account, go to My Preferences. You should see a box for Informed Delivery under Account Management. Click “Manage Your Mail.” To opt in to Informed Delivery, select the appropriate check box. You will need to confirm your address and complete the identity verification process.

NOTE: Informed Delivery will send notifications about all mail sent to one mailbox and will not differentiate between mail sent to individuals who share the mailbox. Therefore, Informed Delivery subscribers will receive images for mail sent to family members, roommates, or anyone else who receives their mail at the address.

I have had the informed delivery since I moved to this place and it doesn’t matter if you see the mail or package on it for being delivered to you on that day. You could have a mail carrier like I have and they will be lazy and not feel like delivering it to you and there’s not one thing that you can do about it. My carrier has went as far as saying that I have put in a change of address, just to get out of delivering my packages. It’s a joke, the whole system is set up to protect the carrier and they can do whatever they want to with your packages. No one will help you with getting the stuff you were supposed to be receiving. My carrier has even left me a little hand written message inside of my mailbox telling me that they left my package at this address, it was literally across my street and they put it on their back porch. There’s three different houses that they could have left it with beside my house that’s literally right nextdoor to my house, I have had so many problems with my mail carrier. Going to the post office and trying to tell the post master doesn’t matter, nothing gets better only made it worse.

  3. Alicia Sandelier says:

You dont always have to show Id or proof of you living at the address. A friend of mine wants to have Inforned delivery canceled at his residence due to ex getting into it. They say the cant do it. This is bull

  4. JoAnne Kustenmacher says:

  5. Irene says:

  6. ANGELLIA ROWE says:

Thanks for the info! Just signed up for Informed Delivery. Can’t wait to try it out. Helps with checking on my unemployment checks.

  7. Anita says:

The link in above article is not functioning properly when initiated so I was unable to check my zip code. I already receive digital notifications for package delivery through usps. No action was required of me in order to receive these. I thought they were set up by the vendors I made my purchases through. What is this class action suit for? Against? What is the infraction?

  8. SHAWN REGAN says:

I’m using and it notifies you only once a day IF ANY MAIL WILL BE DELIVERED ON THAT DAY. IF YOU DON’T RECEIVE NOTIFICATION YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY MAIL ON THAT DAY.

  9. MK says:

It took years to develop this. What a waste of money! If I needed something fast, I would get the document faxed over. If that isn’t possible, I would get it sent Priority or Express by any courier.
Stupid to keep checking the USPS website throughout the day to see what junk mail you get.
USPS needs to improve service, not come up with stupid ideas!

  10. for your information says:

Wow my zip code is not yet I have a eligible address thou
