Intel class action settlementConsumers who purchased a new computer equipped with an Intel Pentium 4 processor between 2000 and 2002 may be eligible to claim $15 from a class action lawsuit settlement.

The Intel Pentium 4 class action settlement resolves a nearly 10-year-old class action lawsuit accusing Intel Corp. of falsely advertising the performance of first-generation Pentium 4 processors by manipulating their performance benchmark scores. Plaintiffs also accused Hewlett-Packard Co. of aiding Intel with the deceptive practice.

Both companies deny the allegations and spent nearly a decade fighting the case in court. After a final failed attempt in April 2013 to dismiss the Pentium 4 class action lawsuit (Skold, et al. v. Intel Corporation, et al.), Intel agreed to a class action settlement deal in July to resolve the litigation.

Under the proposed settlement, Intel has agreed to pay Class Members $15 each and give $4 million to a computer and education nonprofit.

Class Members of the Intel Pentium 4 settlement include all U.S. residents, other than those residing in Illinois, who:

(i) purchased a new computer equipped with a Pentium 4 processor between Nov. 20, 2000 and Dec. 31, 2001 for personal, family or household use and (ii) purchased a new computer equipped with a first-generation (Willamette) Pentium 4 processor or Pentium 4 processor at speeds below 2.0 GHz between Jan. 1, 2002 and June 30, 2002 for personal, family or household use;

and
