electrolux-frigidaire-dishwasherElectrolux is facing a potential class action lawsuit over allegations that its Frigidaire dishwashers may dangerously malfunction, causing both flooding and fires.

According to allegations made in the lawsuit, dishwashers manufactured by Electrolux, branded as either Frigidaire or Electrolux have a dangerous defect in their electrical systems.

The complaint claims that an electrical defect in the washers can cause components to overheat, possibly even igniting or burning holes in the unit, leading to flooding.

The dishwasher lawsuit states that this “caused significant damage to the owner’s home, personal property, and pets as a result of the smoke and fire.”

Consumers could not have reasonably spotted the alleged defect prior to the malfunction and ensuing fires and floods, the lawsuit claims.

Several dramatic photographs of the burned-out shells of alleged Electrolux dishwashers are included in the complaint. These images show apparent burn-marks and melted units, as well as illustrations of the location of the reportedly defective heating unit at the heart of these claims.

The Electrolux lawsuit alleges that these fires and floods have damaged homes, kitchen floors, and even killed house pets due to smoke inhalation. The dishwasher lawsuit seeks compensation for damage, injuries, lost property, legal costs, and the cost of the dishwashers.

Additionally, the lawsuit seeks to have the Court demand a recall of the allegedly defective Electrolux dishwashers.

Plaintiffs Angelia East and Sarah LaVergne claim that the alleged defect in Frigidaire dishwashers has even drawn media attention. The  complaint cites a piece from ABC News that suggested that a woman in Oregon may have died from a fire “in or near a Frigidaire dishwasher.” The ABC News piece aired in February of 2012.

This isn’t the only class action lawsuit that has accused Electrolux of manufacturing defective dishwashers. This lawsuit closely mirrors a similar case filed in Virginia district court against Electrolux over similar issues of overheating, allegedly causing melting, fire, and flood damage.

If this class action is approved, Class Members of the Louisiana dishwasher lawsuit could include anyone who purchased the allegedly-defective Frigidaire / Electrolux dishwashers in Louisiana.

Though the exact number of potential Class Members cannot be known until discovery reveals how many people purchased these dishwashers, it is estimated that thousands of people across Louisiana have purchased these dishwashers.

The plaintiffs in the Louisiana dishwasher lawsuit are represented by John R. Davis, Paula Knippa, and Michael L. Slack of Slack & Davis, LLP; Gregory F. Coleman, Mark E. Silvey, and Lisa A. White of Greg Coleman Law, PC; Edward A. Wallace, Amy E. Keller, and Adam Prom of Wexler Wallace, LLP; Shanon J. Carson, Arthur Stock, and Jeffery L. Osterwise of Berger & Montague, P.C.

The Frigidaire Defective Dishwasher Class Action Lawsuit is Angelia East, et al. v. Electrolux Home Products Inc., Case No. 2:16–cv-12631, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Got a Frigidaire dishwasher a few years ago. Only had it for about 6 months when it caught fire during a cycle and burned a hole on the bottom of it near the front right corner ish area (if you are facing the machine). Luckily I was home to stop the cycle, turn the machine off, and put out the small fire. Now the thing is nothing more than a large drying rack. Because nobody would help me or check it out. I still have it if it would be helpful to this case to look at any parts. However, I have finally saved up enough to get a new one and will be doing that soon. Please add me to this as well.

our new Electrolux dishwasher leaked every time the wash cycle ran. we set the wash to be at night and we didn’t notice the flooding until our floors started buckling. Called our warrenty company and they said Electrolux did not honor their warranties for flooding. We bought another dishwasher and replaced our kitchen and dining room flooring.
