Nationwide Insurance hackAccording to some of our readers, checks for the Nationwide antitheft device discount settlement were mailed earlier this week. If you qualify for this class action settlement, check your mailbox because you may soon be receiving a check in the mail!

Some Class Members have reportedly already received checks in the mail. So far, our readers have informed us that they have received payments ranging from $8 to nearly $80 from the Nationwide class action settlement.

The Nationwide antitheft discount class action settlement resolves allegations that Nationwide Insurance Company of America, its partners, and its various branches and subsidiaries failed to provide some of their policyholders with a discount for antitheft devices featured in their cars, even though the company’s internal database indicated that a policyholder’s vehicle may contain passive antitheft devices or technology.

Nationwide denies all wrongdoing but agreed to settle the antitheft device class action lawsuit to avoid the cost and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.

Class Members of the Nationwide class action settlement include Pennsylvania policyholders who, during the defined Class Periods, did not receive a 10 percent discount on the comprehensive portion of the paid premium even though they, according to Nationwide’s VIN database, had a passive antitheft device installed as the vehicle manufacturer’s standard equipment.

It was estimated that each Class Member would receive a payment of up to 6 percent of the amount paid for the comprehensive insurance premium. Current policyholders did not need to take any action to receive benefits from the Nationwide antitheft device settlement, while former policyholders had to verify their address on the settlement website by Sept. 30, 2015 to be eligible for payment.

Under the terms of the Nationwide class action settlement, the Nationwide defendants also agreed to provide antitheft device discounts to all auto insurance applicants and renewals for the next two years if the company’s VIN database shows that the person’s vehicle contains passive antitheft devices.

    I too submitted a claim before the deadline. I had a policy from 2004-2011 & have not received any notification or payment.

    Nationwide wins again! 10% over-payment on comprehensive portion of auto insurance for 2 years equaled a refund for $2.15. Wow! The incentive to not over-charge isn’t there. If you as a company can collect 10% overage for years and then pay .002 per dollar even though you collected an extra $10 a month, why not collect the extra and pay the class action lawsuit. Not even pennies on the dollar. $4.9 million dollar settlement used by attorney fees, expenses, class notifications, settlement administration. How about someone actually makes the company pay back what they actually owe plus interest. That may actually cause a change in action. Maybe…
