Several homeopathic drug manufacturers are under scrutiny for allegedly selling fraudulent products by making false claims that the homeopathic products offered effective, natural treatment for various ailments and illnesses.
One company who has previously been hit in a homeopathic lawsuit is the popular supplement manufacturer Nature’s Way Products Inc.
Back in 2012, a false advertising class action lawsuit was filed against Nature’s Way alleging the company’s homeopathic treatments were falsely marketed as cure-all without any verified scientific evidence to back up Nature’s Way’s claims.
Plaintiff Sam Pfleg filed this homeopathic remedies lawsuit in California state court in March 2012, claiming Nature’s Way homeopathic supplements are basically sugar pills or water-based creams that do not provide any of the health benefits advertised to consumers.
Pfleg claims the company misrepresented the homeopathic medicine’s effectiveness, leading consumers to buy worthless products. He claims that he and other Class Members would not have purchased the homeopathic supplements without the various misrepresentation by Nature’s Way about the products’ health benefits.
Nature’s Way denied these allegations, but had the homeopathy lawsuit removed to federal court for continued litigation.
Homepathic Remedies and other supplement products manufactured and sold by Nature’s Way include:
- Arniflora Arnica Gel
- BT SciaticAide
- B&T Cough & Bronchial Syrup
- Others
What is Homepathy?
Homeopathy, also known as homeopathic medicine, is an alternative form of medicine that hinges on the theory that “like cure like,” meaning that substances that are known or suspected to cause disease and ailments in healthy individuals can provide a cure to similar symptoms in sick individuals.
However, large-scale studies performed by various scientific organizations and institutes have found that in general homeopathic treatments and remedies are not any more effective than a placebo in terms of health benefits.
The Rise of the Homeopathic Remedies Market
Because of the ever-growing trend of health conscious consumers who are specifically seeking natural remedies for illnesses and health conditions, companies have been able to capitalize on this market trend in order manufacture, advertise, and sell homeopathic products to millions of consumers across the United States. This has resulted in a homeopathic remedies industry that pulls in $2.9 billion a year for these homeopathy manufacturers.
Some popular homeopathic drug manufactures you may be familiar with include:
- NatraBio
- Nature’s Way
- Umcka
- Boericke & Tafel (B&T)
- Alpha CF
- Others
These companies are also currently under investigation for their alleged deceptive marketing and unsupported health claims regarding their homeopathic products.
