Two Washington Nationals fans filed a discrimination class action lawsuit against the baseball team after it ran a Millennial ticket discount promotion that gave fans ages 21 to 39 a 30% discount and $5 to $15 in concessions and merchandise credits.

The Washington Nationals promotion began in the 2023 season for all regular season home games and continued in 2024, according to the class action lawsuit.

The proposed class would include anyone who is age 40 years or older, bought a Washington Nationals ticket during the promotion period and did not receive an equivalent ticket and concessions/merchandise discount from the team.

Ticket deal violates human rights, consumer protection laws

Plaintiffs Nick Snyder and David Coyne say the ticket promotion violates the District of Columbia Human Rights Act (DCHRA) and District of Columbia Consumer Protection Procedures Act.

“Plaintiffs claim that the Nationals violated the DCHRA by (a) denying individuals aged 40 or older the opportunity to qualify for the Millennial Ticket Discount program and not providing an “equivalent discount” for such individuals; and (b) publishing statements about the Millennial Ticket Discount program,” the Washington Nationals class action says.

The Fresno Grizzlies Minor League Baseball team faces a similar class action lawsuit claiming its ladies’ night promotion, which provides free event admission for female fans, discriminates against male and nonbinary fans.
