The widow of a late welder recently filed an asbestos exposure lawsuit against a number of major companies that allegedly manufactured products containing the asbestos that led to her husband’s untimely death.
The plaintiff, Dolores G., filed the asbestos exposure lawsuit on June 6, 2017. Dolores’ late husband, Donald G., worked from 1963 to 1995 as a welder for General Dynamics/Electric Boat Division in Connecticut.
Through all those years, Donald’s work as a welder involved working with and around asbestos products. In some cases, he worked closely with these products, and was exposed to asbestos materials and fibers.
According to the asbestos exposure lawsuit, these products were “designed to require or incorporate asbestos for use, operation or function.”
Dolores’s asbestos exposure lawsuit was filed against companies who manufactured the asbestos-containing products that allegedly led to Donald’s diagnosis and untimely passing.
The asbestos exposure lawsuit was filed against a number of defendants, including CBS Corp., Air & Liquid Systems Corp., Crane Co., Foster Wheeler and General Electric Company.
According to the asbestos exposure lawsuit, at least some of these defendants were actually aware about the dangers of asbestos exposure from products containing asbestos, especially for those who worked closely with the material.
However, they “intentionally and fraudulently concealed the danger from the decedent and the public or conspired to do the same and intentionally misrepresented the information they caused to be published concerning the dangers of asbestos,” the asbestos exposure lawsuit claims.
The asbestos exposure lawsuit was filed on three counts: products liability, loss of consortium, and exemplary or punitive damages.
What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral used for commercial purposes such as electrical or building insulation, as well as countless other uses.
Because of this, construction workers make up a large number of those who file asbestos mesothelioma lawsuits, as they have often spent years surrounded by products and equipment made with asbestos without proper protection or even warning of the dangers of such exposure.
The microscopic fibers of asbestos can accumulate in the lungs, but quickly spreads to distant organs. Asbestos exposure can cause several critical health problems, the worst of which is cancer.
Asbestos mesothelioma cancer may take decades to develop. Because of these factors, asbestos lung cancer is commonly diagnosed at a late stage of development, which makes it significantly more dangerous for patients. Lung cancer attacks the lining of the lungs, and has been associated with exposure to asbestos.
Filing an Asbestos Exposure Lawsuit
According to many asbestos exposure lawsuits, companies that allow workers to be exposed to asbestos should have been aware of the dangerous nature of their asbestos-containing materials. Companies should also be aware of its ability to cause disease and even fatalities. There are many asbestos regulations in place to prevent these kinds of issues.
If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with or died from an asbestos related disease such as mesothelioma cancer, you may be able to file an asbestos exposure lawsuit or seek an asbestos fine.
The Asbestos Exposure Lawsuit is Case No. 3:17-cv-01115-VLB, in the Superior Court for the State of Connecticut.
